Overland Park, KS | Ann Arbor, MI | Houston, TX | Orlando, FL | Raleigh, NC | Denver, CO | Tualatin, OR Job Summary We are seeking a Structural Staff Engineering Technician – Overhead Transmission to support grid infrastructure projects, including overhead transmission line design, within a multidisciplinary engineering environment. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality engineering documentation, drawings, and models while supporting design teams on complex industrial and commercial projects.
Working within the Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) team, the technician will apply advanced technical skills and knowledge of engineering principles to produce and modify structural design deliverables using industry-standard tools.

Key Responsibilities
- Function in a project engineering technician capacity, supporting design and engineering teams.
- Develop, modify, and maintain technical drawings, models, and deliverables.
- Produce designs using AutoCAD, MicroStation, PLS-CADD, and other digital tools.
- Apply engineering principles and established design practices to moderately complex design solutions.
- Review project requirements and ensure accurate formatting and content of deliverables.
- Perform design calculations, material quantity take-offs, and estimates.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, standards, and company quality procedures.
- Maintain document control standards and adhere to company policies.
- Provide technical guidance and direction to junior technicians and team members.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on project deliverables.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality assurance processes.
- May assist with field activities or project startup support when required.
- Review inputs and outputs to ensure consistency and accuracy across deliverables.
- Diploma or Certificate in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field
(Associate degree preferred) - Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in engineering technician or drafting roles.
- Mandatory: Experience in overhead transmission design.
- Strong proficiency in:
- AutoCAD
- MicroStation
- Familiarity with engineering standards, codes, and document control processes
