POSITION
Environmental Specialist

SCOPE OF THE POSITION
Ensure full compliance with applicable environmental regulations, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and all obligations derived from the Environmental Monitoring Plan (PVA/EMP) during project execution.
The role is responsible for the planning, supervision, control, and reporting of environmental and quality‑related aspects, ensuring regulatory compliance and best environmental performance throughout the project lifecycle.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Regulatory & EIA Compliance
  • Verify that all project activities comply with applicable environmental legislation, Environmental Impact Assessments, and environmental commitments.
  • Identify deviations from regulatory and project requirements, propose corrective measures, and ensure their effective implementation.
Environmental Monitoring Plan (PVA / EMP) Supervision
  • Coordinate and oversee execution of controls, monitoring, measurements, and inspections defined in the Environmental Monitoring Plan.
  • Ensure correct data collection, traceability, quality control, and reliability of environmental data.
  • Review, validate, and approve documentation produced by contractors and field teams.
 
Reporting & Communication
  • Prepare and review environmental compliance reports, including weekly, monthly, and ad‑hoc reports.
  • Prepare notifications and communications to environmental authorities when required.
  • Maintain effective communication with operations teams, subcontractors, site management, and regulatory bodies.
Technical Support – Quality & Environment
  • Provide technical environmental and quality support to project teams, including best practices and compliance guidance.
  • Support the HSE function in integrating environmental criteria into project procedures, training programs, and operational controls.
Economic Management & Control
  • Monitor costs associated with environmental subcontractors linked to the Environmental Monitoring Plan.
  • Verify certifications, scopes of work, and contractual compliance of environmental service providers.
Environmental Permitting
  • Prepare, manage, and follow up on environmental documentation required for permits, authorisations, notifications, and administrative procedures.
  • Support liaison with authorities during permitting and compliance processes.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS
  • University degree in Environmental Sciences, Marine Sciences, Biology, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
    OR
  • Higher vocational qualification (FP) in relevant environmental fields
Equivalent Experience:
  • A minimum of 15 years of verifiable experience in environmental supervision roles within offshore Oil & Gas projects (including MODUs) may be considered in lieu of formal academic qualifications.
Additional requirements:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Spanish
  • Valid Offshore Survival certification (e.g. BOSIET with CA‑EBS)
  • Valid medical fitness certification (OGUK/OEUK or equivalent)
EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation, Environmental Impact Assessments, and sector‑specific regulations.
  • Ability to interpret EIAs, Environmental Monitoring Plans, construction projects, and technical specifications.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience operating in Spain, with in‑depth knowledge of Spanish environmental legislation and EIA procedures.
  • High attention to detail in document control, data analysis, and technical reporting.
  • Experience coordinating teams and managing subcontractors.
  • Ability to communicate technical environmental information to multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and decision‑making skills.
  • Proficiency with environmental monitoring tools, GIS applications, databases, and office software.
