EPCM Power Plant Project Manager
Reports to: Project Director
Location: Anchorage, AK (with frequent travel to site and contractor locations)
POSITION SUMMARY
Accountable for the full lifecycle delivery of the power generation and distribution systems supporting the clients large-scale, remote mining operation. This includes oversight of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover of power infrastructure, including generation facilities, substations, and transmission systems.
This role operates within a multi-EPCM contractor environment and is responsible for integrating scope across multiple work packages, ensuring alignment with overall project execution strategy, and delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective power solutions under challenging Alaska conditions.

POSITION SUMMARY

This includes oversight of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover of power infrastructure, including generation facilities, substations, and transmission systems.
This role operates within a multi-EPCM contractor environment and is responsible for integrating scope across multiple work packages, ensuring alignment with overall project execution strategy, and delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective power solutions under challenging Alaska conditions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Project Development (Planning, Engineering & Procurement)
- Lead the power project from FEL/FEED through detailed engineering.
- Develop and implement the Power Project Execution Plan aligned with overall project objectives.
- Oversee the engineering design basis, system studies, and technical specifications.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Integrate power systems with the process plant, pipeline, and supporting infrastructure.
- Ensure system reliability for remote operations and extreme Alaska environmental conditions.
- Develop procurement strategies for major power equipment and long-lead materials.
- Coordinate procurement activities with remote logistics and seasonal transportation constraints.
- Oversee contract administration and vendor performance during engineering and procurement.
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, schedules, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Lead construction execution while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
- Direct EPCM contractor performance to ensure contract requirements, cost, schedule, and quality objectives are achieved.
- Manage interfaces between engineering, construction, contractors, and project stakeholders to eliminate scope gaps and conflicts.
- Coordinate closely with Interface Management and Project Controls teams.
- Monitor schedule performance and drive timely delivery of critical milestones.
- Oversee system commissioning, testing, energization, and startup activities.
- Identify and mitigate construction risks, including weather, logistics, and contractor performance.
- Provide regular project status reports to executive leadership.
- Support permitting activities and regulatory agency coordination throughout construction.
- Lead the successful transition of completed power facilities to Operations.
- Ensure all power generation, transmission, and distribution systems are fully tested, documented, and accepted.
- Coordinate development of operating procedures and maintenance strategies.
- Ensure spare parts, maintenance plans, warranties, and asset documentation are transferred to Operations.
- Coordinate operator and maintenance personnel training.
- Support reliability planning and long-term asset performance initiatives.
- Provide technical support during initial operations and system optimization.
- Assist Operations in resolving startup issues and achieving stable, reliable system performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline, Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
- PMP, PgMP, or equivalent preferred.
- 20+ years of large capital project experience.
- Experience with EPCM environments and remote projects.
- Knowledge of power generation, distribution, and substations.
- Experience with high-voltage systems and reliability design.
- Familiarity with U.S. and Alaska regulations.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage large multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
