An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join a well-established underground mining operation within a leading global gold producer on a long-term contract. This role offers the opportunity to work as part of a high-performing Technical Services team, providing critical geotechnical support to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of underground mining operations.
Working on a long-term contract, you'll play a key role in managing ground control risks, supporting mine planning, and contributing to the ongoing success of a modern underground hard rock operation with a strong production outlook.
About the Role Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will provide technical geotechnical support across underground operations, ensuring ground stability hazards are effectively identified, managed, and mitigated. You will work closely with Mining, Planning, Geology, Survey, and Operations teams to optimise mine designs, ground support strategies, and production outcomes.

About the Role Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will provide technical geotechnical support across underground operations, ensuring ground stability hazards are effectively identified, managed, and mitigated. You will work closely with Mining, Planning, Geology, Survey, and Operations teams to optimise mine designs, ground support strategies, and production outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day geotechnical engineering support to underground mining operations.
- Conduct underground inspections and geotechnical mapping of development headings, stopes, and mining areas.
- Monitor and assess ground conditions, identifying and managing geotechnical risks.
- Review, recommend, and optimise ground support systems.
- Analyse geotechnical monitoring data and recommend corrective actions where required.
- Provide geotechnical input into mine design, stope sequencing, decline development, and infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain Ground Control Management Plans and geotechnical risk assessments.
- Investigate ground failures and provide practical engineering solutions.
- Support short, medium, and long-term mine planning activities.
- Prepare technical reports and communicate recommendations to operational stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with applicable NSW mining legislation, site standards, and safety requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, and operational performance.
- Degree qualification in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in underground hard rock mining.
- Strong understanding of rock mechanics, ground control, and underground geotechnical engineering practices.
- Experience undertaking underground geotechnical mapping and hazard assessments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary technical and operational teams.
- Commitment to maintaining high safety standards.
- Experience using Rocscience Suite, Map3D, Deswik, Vulcan, Leapfrog, or similar geotechnical and mining software.
- Knowledge of seismic monitoring, geotechnical instrumentation, and numerical modelling.
- Experience within long-hole open stoping or paste fill mining environments.
- Long-term contract with excellent project stability.
- FIFO from Sydney or Brisbane.
