NES Fircroft are currently recruiting a HR Assistant on behalf of our client, a leading global plant-building and life cycle partner in the metals industry, based in the Sheffield office. This is an initial 12-month contract, with potential for further long-term work. 36hrs per week, Mon-Fri. Hybrid working offering flexibility from office and home! 

Role Purpose
The HR Assistant plays a pivotal role within the HR department, serving as a key support function to ensure the smooth operation of HR processes and maintenance of all relevant systems. The role includes delivering effective administrative services such as payroll, producing key reports, maintaining employee records, advising on policies, processes and procedures, and supporting improvement initiatives. The HR Assistant will be one of the first points of contact for all employees and queries.

Required Skills and Knowledge
Essential
  • Educated to A‑level standard or equivalent.
  • Previous administration/assistant experience, ideally in HR.
  • Use of HR information systems (e.g., SAP, SuccessFactors) and MS Office.
  • Payroll experience.
  • High accuracy in data entry and record‑keeping.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Proactive, efficient and organised.
  • Commitment to excellent employee and manager support.
  • Collaborative and supportive approach.
Desirable
  • CIPD qualification (or working towards)
  • HR certifications advantageous but not essential.
  • Basic employment law knowledge.
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism.
  • Proactive issue‑solving using initiative and judgement.
  • Confident user of HR systems and business applications.
  • Flexible and open to change.
