The Planning and Scheduling Engineer (PE) is responsible for the project schedule and all aspects of the Progress Measurement System. This includes developing, maintaining, monitoring, controlling, and integrating the overall project schedule. The PE verifies contractor schedules and ensures consistency with the Current Control Estimate, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), and Project Plan. The role establishes schedule requirements and frequencies for contractor deliverables and focuses on timely detection of trends and deviations from the plan.
The PE specializes in project schedule development, control, and forecasting. Responsibilities include developing the Project Schedule, managing progress measurement, and ensuring alignment with project estimates and plans.

The PE specializes in project schedule development, control, and forecasting. Responsibilities include developing the Project Schedule, managing progress measurement, and ensuring alignment with project estimates and plans.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain regular contact with project teams and the Functional Organization.
- Liaise closely with planning engineers in project teams.
- Provide direction and feedback to project planning and control engineers on schedule aspects.
- Drive and promote capital efficiency in Project Services and stewarded projects.
- Deliver planning support to the project team.
- Maintain the owner’s project schedule.
- Develop schedules for Gate Reviews.
- Collaborate with Project Services and other project team members.
- Lead internal teams or contractors in schedule development and control.
- Endorse schedule and progress baselines.
- Steward the contractor’s project control organization.
- Advise on schedule issues and develop corrective actions.
- Review project changes and monitor schedule implications.
- Support progress measurement and ensure compliance with coordination procedures.
- Analyze trends and participate in contract evaluations.
- Assist the project team in reviewing corrective actions.
- Provide direction and feedback to schedule engineers.
- Participate in lessons learned.
- Promote capital efficiency across projects.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.
- 15+ years in Planning/Scheduling and/or Project Controls and/or Project Services.
- Owner’s experience preferred, including developing plans at early Gate Review stages prior to EPC award.
- Previous upstream, oil sands, and/or SAGD experience preferred.
- Position located at the Strathcona Edmonton refinery
- Strong owner‑side front‑end project planning skills.
- Experience developing and managing Engineering & Procurement schedules.
- Strong technical mentoring skills for other Planning and Scheduling Engineers.
- Ability to work effectively with team members across different sites and time zones.
- Minimal travel to assets within Alberta/Canada may be required.
- May assist with projects across Canada, with a wide variety of project sizes.
- Strong influencing, consulting, mentoring, analytical, and computing skills.
- Advanced competency in Primavera Project Planner (P6).
- Adaptability to changing priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and respond quickly to urgent analysis requests.
