Job Title: Planning Engineer II
Location: Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta
Length: 1 Year (with potential extension)
Rotation: 3 days in office (Mon/Tues/Thurs) and 2 days remote (Wed/Friday)

Role Summary
The Planning Engineer II is a senior execution‑enablement role best suited for experienced Engineers (Project, Field, Construction, or execution‑focused Planning Engineers) who are comfortable working across many stakeholders simultaneously. The role focuses on advancing mechanical, electrical, and civil projects into service earlier by taking ownership of execution readiness, increasing in‑year delivery, and ensuring plans are carried through to field execution.

This position enables safe, accelerated execution of a large, multi‑billion‑dollar brownfield pipeline and facilities portfolio spanning multiple states and provinces. The role is not a traditional scheduling or program reporting position, but a hands‑on execution‑focused planning role centered on risk mitigation, opportunity identification, and cross‑functional alignment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enable safe, accelerated execution of a large brownfield portfolio by identifying risks, unlocking opportunities, and aligning Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Operations, Supply Chain, and Investment Owners.
  • Own program‑level site layout planning, congestion management, and sequencing strategies to optimize execution and reduce schedule risk.
  • Identify and actively drive execution‑focused optimizations, targeting the gain of months or years of schedule through early enablement, sequencing, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Own execution readiness across a large, multi‑year portfolio of pipeline and facilities projects, ensuring work is mature and prepared when execution windows open.
  • Identify opportunities to increase in‑year capital execution through scope pull‑forward, early ISDs, and advancement of in‑scope work.
  • Proactively enable high‑value tuck‑in and complementary scopes that can be executed alongside currently sanctioned work.
  • Evaluate capital versus schedule trade‑offs, including early engineering, long‑lead materials, contractor capacity, procurement strategies, and enabling works.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to align procurement strategies, vendor capacity, and material delivery timelines with execution opportunities.
  • Engage Investment Owners and Sponsors to align scope, timing, funding, and value‑realization decisions in support of accelerated execution.
  • Maintain the department‑level Golden Project List, ensuring priorities reflect execution readiness, supply‑chain realities, advancement opportunities, and sponsor objectives.
  • Manage planning and progress data for 200+ projects, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and usability across regions.
  • Develop and maintain spatial plot plans using GIS tools to manage congestion, sequencing, and resource constraints.
  • Act as a central integration point between Engineering, Construction, Operations, Project Controls, Supply Chain, and Sponsors.
  • Apply negotiation and relationship‑building skills to resolve constraints and ensure planning commitments are translated into execution and in‑service results.

Role Scope
  • Drives execution readiness and integration across a complex, multi‑discipline brownfield portfolio.
  • Operates with a strong execution bias, focusing on delivery rather than reporting.
  • Influences stakeholders across functional and regional boundaries without direct authority.
  • Bridges the gap between long‑range plans and field execution through proactive enablement.
  • Requires frequent collaboration across engineering, construction, supply chain, and operations teams.

Qualifications
  • Engineering background with experience in Project Engineering, Field Engineering, Construction Engineering, or execution‑focused Planning.
  • Strong understanding of brownfield pipeline and facilities execution.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities in parallel.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying execution risks and opportunities and driving outcomes.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills.

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid office environment with required in‑office presence Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
  • Approximately 15% travel to engage with field teams, facilities, suppliers, and regional offices across the pipeline system.
  • Occasional work outside regular business hours may be required to support execution milestones.
