Principal Procurement – 12-Month Contract
NES Fircroft is working in partnership with a leading organisation within the resources sector to appoint a Principal Procurement specialist on a 12-month contract basis.
This position sits within a high-performing procurement function that supports a broad range of essential operational services critical to large-scale site operations. The team works closely with senior operational leaders and subject matter experts to ensure procurement activity delivers strong commercial outcomes while maintaining operational continuity and risk control. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the development and execution of procurement strategies that enhance value creation, strengthen commercial position, and support longer-term business performance.
You will operate as a key advisor to the business, bringing a blend of commercial insight, analytical thinking, and structured problem-solving capability. The role requires an individual who can interpret complex requirements, influence senior stakeholders, and translate strategic intent into practical, measurable outcomes that support both operational and commercial priorities.

Key Responsibilities
- Shape and execute procurement category approaches that maximise commercial value, improve cost efficiency, and support broader business objectives
- Manage end-to-end sourcing activity including complex procurement events, commercial negotiations, and contract award for high-value service agreements
- Establish and mature supplier management practices that strengthen performance, accountability, and long-term partnership outcomes
- Act as a subject matter resource within the team, supporting capability uplift through coaching, knowledge sharing, and practical guidance
- Develop trusted working relationships with operational and technical stakeholders to ensure procurement activity is aligned to delivery needs
- Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimisation, and enhanced commercial performance across the portfolio
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in procurement, category management, or strategic sourcing within mining, resources, or similarly complex environments
- Strong understanding of commercial frameworks, contracting approaches, and value optimisation techniques
- Comfortable working with large datasets and complex information to develop clear, actionable insights and recommendations
- Strong communicator with demonstrated ability to engage, influence, and align senior stakeholders
- Thrives in fast-moving, changing environments with competing priorities and deadlines
- Strong analytical and critical thinking capability, with confidence to challenge assumptions and improve outcomes
- Team-oriented approach with a focus on building effective working relationships and delivering results through collaboration
