We are seeking an experienced Senior Control Systems & Instrumentation (CS&I) Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team based in Brisbane. This role is responsible for the design, specification and delivery of instrumentation, valves and DCS/PLC-based control systems across major industrial projects. You will provide high-quality engineering and design support throughout the project lifecycle while mentoring junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Instrumentation design for material handling and process plant projects across small, medium and large-scale developments.
- Prepare scopes of work for plant control systems, telecommunications and instrumentation packages.
- Develop study reports, scopes of work, equipment specifications, functional specifications and datasheets.
- Prepare proposals and cost estimates.
- Select and specify instrumentation in accordance with equipment datasheets.
- Design and modify panel layouts, schematic wiring and termination diagrams for industrial control systems.
- Develop instrumentation schedules, including cable, instrument and I/O schedules.
- Develop changeover plans for brownfield control system upgrades.
- Design PLC and Remote I/O control systems.
- Design and layout plant control rooms.
- Determine the location and arrangement of DCS and other control cabinets.
- Participate in design and hazard reviews.
- Review supplier documentation to ensure project specifications are met.
- Mentor and support junior instrumentation and control systems engineers.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or equivalent).
- Approximately 10–13 years' relevant experience in control systems and instrumentation engineering.
- Experience with functional safety systems and TÜV certification is highly regarded.
- CPEng status and current RPEQ registration are highly desirable.
Skills & Requirements
- Strong background in Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in the design and engineering of processing plants, mining, minerals processing, heavy industrial or oil & gas facilities.
- Thorough understanding of relevant industry codes, standards and regulatory requirements relating to instrumentation and control systems.
- Commitment to maintaining high safety standards and ensuring compliance with engineering procedures.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with Smart Instrumentation is advantageous.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams and deliver high-quality technical outcomes
