We are currently recruiting a Turnaround Material Coordinator for a Major Global Oil & Gas Operator on a contract until 31st December 2027.
This role will report to the Materials Management Supervisor, and works on a daily basis in coordination with the SCM TAR Lead Material Coordinator. This role requires the ability to operate autonomously in a remote, FIFO site environment during high-tempo turnaround execution windows.
The incumbent must balance real-time material coordination demands with the direct supervision of 3rd party contractor labour, while maintaining compliance .
The seasonal nature of the FIFO roster (aligned to Long Range TAR Plan) requires mobilisation and demobilisation capability, and the ability to transition seamlessly between strategic planning and tactical execution modes.

Scope:
- The position provides direct support to the TAR Organisation, Operations, Maintenance & Reliability, and Project teams in relation to all turnaround materials and logistics execution. This role is responsible for on-site material coordination and direct oversight of 3rd party contractor labour delivering warehouse, material handling scopes during a TAR event.
- The role operates on a FIFO-rostered cycle aligned to the TAR long range plan, typically mobilised for six months every 4 out of 5 years. During off-cycle periods, the incumbent supports TAR pre-planning activities from Perth, including BOM development, long-lead procurement coordination, and material readiness reporting with 2027 being a planned gap year based solely in Perth.
- To enable effective TAR materials management, the candidate must be capable of engagement with multiple stakeholders including TAR Leadership, Maintenance Planners & Schedulers, Engineering, Inspection, SCM (Logistics, Materials, Contracts & Procurement), Finance, and 3rd party contractors. Strong working relationships, communication skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a high-tempo, schedule driven environment are essential.
- The Turnaround Material Coordinator will provide advice on all matters relating to TAR material procurement, kitting, staging, and inventory management. They will act as a subject matter expert on the relevant procurement and inventory governance, workflows, processes, and software systems as they relate to turnaround execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- The Turnaround Material Coordinator is responsible for the end-to-end coordination of materials in support of planned Turnaround (TAR) events.
- This is a Perth-based role during the Early Planning and Detailed Planning phases, transitioning to a FIFO-rostered position aligned to the TAR cycle during the Pre-Works, Execution, and Close-Out phases. In a TAR execution year, the FIFO component is approximately six months; in an off-cycle year, the role is 100% Perth-based.
Pre-Works & Planning responsibilities include:
- Engaging with TAR Planning, Maintenance, and Engineering teams during the Identify and Plan phases to build and validate TAR Bill of Materials (BOMs) for all work orders, ensuring completeness and accuracy in JDE.
- Coordinating with SCM Procurement and Contracts teams to identify long-lead materials early in the TAR planning cycle, communicating critical path items and ensuring Purchase Requisitions are raised with sufficient lead time to meet TAR schedules.
- Performing material readiness reviews at defined milestones, providing status reporting on material availability, procurement progress, and risk items to TAR Leadership and SCM Management.
- Coordinating kitting and staging operations with the onsite Warehouse and Supply Base teams, ensuring all work order materials are consolidated, inspected, and staged in designated marshalling areas ahead of execution.
- Developing and maintaining the TAR Material Readiness Tracker, providing regular reporting to TAR Leadership on KPIs including material availability percentage, procurement status, kitting completion, and outstanding risk items.
- Working in partnership with SCM Logistics to develop freight forecasts and cargo plans for TAR-specific materials, ensuring alignment with quarantine requirements, vessel/barge schedules, and site laydown capacity.
- Reviewing and validating bulk and consumable material requirements (gaskets, fasteners, filters, lubricants, welding consumables, etc.) in coordination with the TAR Execution Contractor and Maintenance teams.
- Coordinating with Engineering and Inspection teams on the procurement and readiness of vendor-supplied specialist equipment, rental items, and temporary materials required for TAR scopes.
During the Pre-Works and Execution phases, the Turnaround Material Coordinator is the primary on-site SCM Materials representative responsible for real-time material coordination and the direct oversight of 3rd party contractor labour performing material execution scopes.
Execution responsibilities include:
- Driving and supervising a team of 3rd party contractor personnel (leads and warehouse operators) to execute all material issuing, receiving, kitting, staging, and returns activities on site during the TAR pre-works and execution window.
- Establishing and enforcing daily material management routines including morning toolbox meetings, shift handovers, material status boards, and end-of-day reconciliation to ensure the contractor team operates safely.
- Coordinating vendor representatives on site for specialist equipment commissioning, technical support, and warranty-related matters in collaboration with TAR Engineering.
- Providing daily and weekly material status reporting to the TAR Execution Manager and SCM Leadership, including material issue rates, outstanding items, emergency procurement activity, and contractor performance metrics.
Close Out, Clean Up & Continuous Improvement
- During the Close Out and Clean Up phase, the Turnaround Material Coordinator is responsible for the orderly demobilisation of material and logistics operations and the transition back to base business.
Close Out & Clean Up responsibilities include:
- Coordinating the return of all surplus and unused materials to warehouse stock, ensuring JDE transactions are completed accurately and materials are inspected, re-certified where required, and returned to correct storage locations.
- Managing the demobilisation of temporary laydown areas, rental equipment, and contractor-supplied materials, ensuring all items are accounted for and returned or disposed .
- Driving the Investment Recovery process for surplus TAR materials, working with Finance and SCM teams to identify candidates for disposal, transfer, or sharing with external parties under ABU sharing agreements.
- Coordinating the final reconciliation of all TAR work order materials in JDE, ensuring all receipts, issues, returns, and transfers are accurately recorded and any discrepancies are investigated and resolved.
- Overseeing the phased stand-down and demobilisation of 3rd party contractor personnel, ensuring all contractual obligations are met and performance evaluations are completed and demobilizing back to Perth once complete .
- Compiling a TAR Materials Lessons Learned report, capturing key observations, issues, successes, and improvement recommendations across all IMPACT phases for incorporation into future TAR planning cycles.
- Supporting Finance and SCM teams with post-TAR inventory audits and cost reconciliation as required.
- Collaborating with the base business Materials Coordinators to ensure a clean handover of any outstanding material actions, open purchase orders, or pending deliveries back to the ongoing operations team.

- Highly proficient user of JDE ERP System (Inventory, Warehousing, MRP and CMMS Modules)
- Highly proficient user of the following ABU Tools:
- All Key Garner Modules (TQ/PQ, NCR, Order Management, IRIS) (Repairs and Fabrication Module exposure is helpful)
- Freight App
- VOR
- ChemAlert
- SMART by GEP
- Working knowledge of TAR planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6, EcoSys) and material readiness reporting
- Demonstrated experience in contractor workforce supervision in an industrial or resource sector environment
Key Skills and Experience

- Minimum 5 years' experience in materials management, warehousing, or supply chain coordination within the oil & gas, LNG, mining, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in turnaround or shutdown materials management, including BOM development, kitting, staging, and execution-phase material coordination.
- Proven ability to lead and direct 3rd party contractor teams in a site-based, FIFO environment, including setting expectations, managing performance, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Experienced in the use of multiple ERP systems — preferably JD Edwards (JDE) — for the coordination of materials to meet maintenance and turnaround work order demands. Experience with SAP S/4HANA in a turnaround or maintenance environment would be highly regarded.
- Experience in the prioritisation of work scopes across materials and logistics in a high-tempo, schedule-critical environment.
- Demonstrated success in managing multiple work fronts simultaneously to deliver materials requirements for on-site activities under time pressure.
