ROLE OVERVIEW
We are recruiting a QA/QC Welding Specialist to support the construction phase of a major onshore LNG project in Mozambique. This is a site-based, rotational position embedded within the Owner's quality team, working directly alongside contractors and subcontractors across all welding and fabrication activities.
The successful candidate will act as the QA/QC and inspection representative on site, ensuring all welding operations are performed in full compliance with applicable international codes, project specifications, and Company standards. The role requires hands-on oversight of welder qualifications, WPS implementation, NDT coordination, and NCR management, combined with the leadership capability to promote a strong safety and quality culture across a large, multicultural construction workforce.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and comment on contractors' welding quality plans, ITPs, WPS, PQRs, and WQRs
- Witness and verify welder qualification tests; ensure only qualified welders perform project work
- Monitor and verify implementation of qualified WPS and adherence to all welding parameters
- Coordinate and oversee NDT activities (RT, UT, MT, PT); interpret results and ensure proper documentation
- Ensure traceability of welding consumables, materials, and weld joints per project and code requirements
- Resolve welding-related TQs and NCRs; track defect trends and recommend mitigations
- Liaise with NDT, piping, mechanical, and construction teams to improve welding QA/QC effectiveness
- Compile daily, weekly, and monthly welding discipline reports (weld status, NDT results, repair rates)
- Promote HSE compliance with emphasis on safe welding practices and welding-related hazard control
- Verify correct welding inspection workforce levels are maintained by contractor and subcontractors
CANDIDATE PROFILE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Engineering degree or equivalent with post-qualification in QA/QC, inspection, welding, or metallurgical discipline
- Minimum 10 years' experience in welding QA/QC, preferably on large-scale Oil & Gas or LNG projects
- At least 5 years in welding inspection and QA/QC roles on major projects
- Certified Welding Inspector: CWI (AWS), CSWIP 3.1/3.2, or equivalent (preferred)
- Thorough knowledge of welding codes: ASME IX, AWS D1.1, ISO 9606, API 1104
- Fluent English (written and verbal); Portuguese or French is an advantage
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Thorough knowledge of international welding codes and standards — ASME IX, AWS D1.1, ISO 9606, and API 1104 — applicable to onshore LNG piping and structural fabrication.
- Certified Welding Inspector qualification (CWI/AWS, CSWIP 3.1, CSWIP 3.2, or equivalent) with demonstrated ability to review and approve WPS, PQR, and WQR documentation.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on welding inspection experience on major Oil & Gas or LNG
- construction projects, including direct oversight of contractor and subcontractor welding operations.
- Practical ability to witness and validate welder qualification tests and to authorize or reject welder performance in compliance with applicable project and code requirements.
- Working knowledge of NDT methods (RT, UT, MT, PT) sufficient to coordinate NDT operations, review examination results, and interpret findings in relation to welding defect acceptance criteria.
- Experience reviewing contractor quality documentation: welding quality plans, ITPs, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Records (WQR).
- Proven capability to raise, track, and close NCRs and TQs related to welding non-conformance, including root cause analysis and corrective action follow-up.
- Experience in welding consumable and material traceability management, including batch control, storage verification, and documentation in compliance with project and code requirements.
- Ability to compile and submit structured QA/QC reports (daily/weekly/monthly) covering weld status, defect trends, NDT results, repair rates, and contractor performance metrics.
- Strong HSE culture with demonstrated ability to promote safe welding practices, including control of welding-related hazards (fumes, arc flash, fire risk) and enforcement of PTW and JSA requirements on LNG construction sites.
