Commissioning Field Engineer (BESS) Location: Saleux, Hauts‑de‑France
Contract Type: 12‑Month Contract (Freelance / Fixed‑Term)

About the Project A major utility‑scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) installation is underway in Saleux, Hauts‑de‑France, supporting regional grid stability, renewable energy integration, and peak‑shaving capacity. The project involves commissioning cutting‑edge Li‑ion (or LFP, depending on supplier) energy storage units, inverters, EMS/SCADA systems, and balance‑of‑plant infrastructure.
As a Commissioning Field Engineer, you will play a key role in bringing the system safely online, ensuring all equipment operates to specification and quality standards.

As a Commissioning Field Engineer, you will play a key role in bringing the system safely online, ensuring all equipment operates to specification and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities Commissioning & Testing
- Perform commissioning activities for BESS containers, PCS/inverters, transformers, HVAC, fire suppression, and auxiliary systems.
- Conduct pre‑commissioning checks, functional testing, and system energisation sequences.
- Support commissioning of SCADA, EMS, PLCs, network switches, sensors, metering and control systems.
- Run site acceptance tests (SAT), functional acceptance tests (FAT, if required on site), and assist with grid compliance testing.
- Troubleshoot electrical, control, and communication issues during system commissioning.
- Validate system performance data, alarms, setpoints, and operating parameters.
- Maintain commissioning logs, test procedures, and risk assessments.
- Prepare and complete commissioning documentation, method statements, and as‑built reports.
- Provide daily/weekly progress updates to the Commissioning Manager.
- Support the creation of defect lists (punch lists) and track resolution.
- Ensure all commissioning work complies with site HSE rules, national regulations, and electrical safety standards.
- Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safe isolation procedures.
- Ensure lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) processes are followed during energisation.
- Work closely with EPC contractors, OEM engineers (battery, PCS, transformers), SCADA teams, and utility partners (DSO/TSO).
- Support client handover process including training sessions, system demonstrations, and warranty kick‑off documentation.
- Minimum 3–5 years experience in commissioning in one or more of the following:
- BESS / energy storage systems
- HV/LV power systems
- Renewable energy plants (solar, wind, hybrid sites)
- Industrial electrical or control engineering projects
- Strong understanding of:
- Electrical schematics & single‑line diagrams
- HV/LV switchgear, protections, transformers
- Inverters / PCS equipment
- SCADA/EMS systems, communication protocols (Modbus, IEC‑104, CAN, Ethernet)
- Experience energising electrical systems up to 33kV desirable.
- Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Automation or related technical degree (or equivalent experience).
- HV switching authorisation is a plus (or willingness to work under authorised person).
- French not required but beneficial; English acceptable for all technical tasks.
- Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting capability.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and in cross‑functional teams.
- Comfortable working on a construction site environment.
