Position Summary The Auxiliary Operator supports the safe and efficient operation of the power plant and its supporting systems. This role performs routine water/gas chemistry analysis, conducts field inspections, monitors operating equipment/parameters, reports plant status, and assists the operations and maintenance team as needed.
Key Responsibilities Safety & Compliance
  • Follow the site Health & Safety Management System and safe work practices (e.g., Permit to Work, Management of Change, contractor safety).
  • Participate in safety observations/inspections, incident/near-miss reporting, and compliance programs.
Operations Support
  • Perform assigned work under the Operations Manager, with day-to-day direction from the Control Room Operator.
  • Assist in operating plant equipment and monitoring key operating parameters to maintain reliable operations.
  • Inspect/monitor operating components and communicate plant conditions/status.
Chemistry / Water Treatment
  • Perform routine water/gas chemistry analysis.
  • Operate/maintain chemical pumping systems and support chemistry control to protect equipment reliability.
  • Support chemical handling and offloading activities.
Maintenance Support
  • Assist with preventive maintenance, planned maintenance, and routine repairs (mechanical and some electrical repair support).
  • Support lockout/tagout, equipment identification, troubleshooting, and work request preparation.
  • Work on rotating equipment, chemical systems, and water-processing equipment.
  • Pull parts/supplies from inventory and complete usage reporting; assist with physical inventories.
Additional
  • Support emergency operations/maintenance to protect equipment and maintain production.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Skills
  • High school diploma (or equivalent); associate degree in a technical field preferred.
  • Power plant experience preferred (e.g., power plant technician or similar).
  • Preferred exposure to combustion turbines / high-pressure turbine equipment and related systems.
  • Desired experience in water chemistry control, water treatment operations, and chemical handling.
  • Mechanical/electrical aptitude and comfort reading plant documentation (e.g., piping/instrument schematics and process controls).
Work Conditions / Physical Requirements
  • Standing/walking for extended periods; stair/ladder climbing; routine lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • PPE required; may work with hazardous materials.
  • Shift work with potential weekends/holidays, extended hours, and periodic on-call requirements.
