Job Summary The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for ensuring all welding and fabrication activities within a power plant construction or maintenance project meet applicable codes, specifications, and quality standards. This role supports quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) efforts by performing inspections, reviewing documentation, and coordinating with field teams to maintain compliance with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform visual and dimensional inspections of welds on piping, structural steel, and pressure components
- Verify compliance with applicable codes and standards, including AWS, ASME, and project-specific requirements
- Review and validate Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder qualifications
- Monitor welding activities in the field to ensure proper techniques, materials, and safety practices are followed
- Coordinate and witness non-destructive testing (NDT), such as radiographic (RT), ultrasonic (UT), magnetic particle (MT), and dye penetrant (PT) testing
- Identify weld defects, document non-conformances, and track corrective actions
- Maintain accurate inspection reports, logs, and turnover documentation
- Interface with project engineers, subcontractors, and client representatives to resolve quality issues
- Ensure adherence to site safety policies and environmental regulations
- Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification from the American Welding Society
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree preferred
- 3–7+ years of welding inspection experience in industrial or power generation environments
- Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW)
- Familiarity with ASME Section I, V, and IX, and AWS D1.1 codes
- Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and blueprints
- Experience with NDT methods and coordination
- Proficient in documentation and reporting tools (digital QA/QC systems preferred)
- Experience on large EPC projects or with union craft labor environments
- Prior work in fossil, combined cycle, or renewable power plants
- Additional certifications (e.g., API, NACE, or Level II/III NDT)
- OSHA safety training (10 or 30-hour)
- Field-based role at active power plant construction or outage sites in Nebraska
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, elevated work areas, confined spaces, and industrial hazards
- May require extended work hours, weekends, and travel depending on project demands
