Senior Data Analyst (Hybrid – Denver, CO) Contract Position
We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst to support the Rockies region, delivering dedicated analytical capabilities to the Drilling & Completions (D&C) organization. This strategic operations-embedded role focuses on transforming raw data into high‑value insights that enhance operational efficiency, well delivery performance, and capital management.
The successful candidate will serve as a trusted analytical partner to D&C leadership, engineers, and field personnel—building dashboards, analytics, and automated solutions that directly influence business outcomes. This role requires a seasoned analyst capable of working independently, solving complex problems, and presenting findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels, including executives.

We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst to support the Rockies region, delivering dedicated analytical capabilities to the Drilling & Completions (D&C) organization. This role requires a seasoned analyst capable of working independently, solving complex problems, and presenting findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels, including executives.
Key Responsibilities Data Analysis & Insights
- Extract, analyze, and interpret complex datasets to support strategic decision‑making.
- Build and maintain SQL queries across enterprise systems (OXYODS, OpenWells, operational databases) for D&C reporting.
- Conduct detailed analysis of drilling and completions performance, timelines, costs, and operational KPIs.
- Translate technical analysis into actionable insights and business recommendations.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain Power BI and/or Spotfire dashboards for D&C and Operations teams.
- Create clear visualizations for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Troubleshoot dashboard issues, reconnect data sources, and optimize refresh performance.
- Ensure alignment to enterprise BI standards.
- Use automation tools to streamline recurring data analysis and business workflows.
- Identify manual processes and introduce automated solutions.
- Build reusable SQL templates, stored procedures, and data pipelines.
- Continuously seek efficiency improvements in data and reporting workflows.
- Partner with D&C engineers, operations leaders, and business teams to define data needs and deliver analytical support.
- Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and IT teams.
- Respond to ad‑hoc data requests promptly while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- Document data lineage, logic, and reporting methodologies.
- Develop validation queries and perform ongoing QC across multiple data sources.
- Monitor data freshness and proactively identify anomalies.
- Support master data management for wells, pads, assets, and operational hierarchies.
- 3+ years as a Data Analyst, BI Analyst, or similar role.
- 2+ years writing complex SQL queries in production environments, including new query development and optimization.
- 2+ years building and managing Power BI and/or Spotfire dashboards.
- Experience supporting operations, engineering, or field teams in data‑intensive environments.
- Advanced SQL expertise (CTEs, joins, aggregations, window functions, string manipulation).
- Proficiency in Power BI (preferred) or Spotfire (required).
- Strong foundation in relational database concepts and data modeling.
- High proficiency in Excel.
- Experience with Git or Azure DevOps is a plus.
- Strong analytical, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to transform complex datasets into clear business insights.
- High attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Comfortable working with ambiguous requirements and iterating toward solutions.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels, including executives.
- Strong team collaboration skills across engineering, operations, and business groups.
- Self‑starter with strong organizational and multitasking ability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, or related field.
- Ability to work a hybrid schedule in downtown Denver, CO.
- D&C or upstream oil & gas experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with OpenWells or other well data systems (Landmark, PPDM‑based).
- Familiarity with oil & gas operational metrics:
- API numbers, pads, formations, lateral lengths
- Drilling metrics (spud dates, drill days, directional surveys)
- Completions metrics (stages, proppant, pump schedules, frac timelines)
- Programming experience in Python or R.
- Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps).
- Experience working with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
- Stakeholders: D&C teams, Operations, Field personnel, Business units, Regulatory, HSE
- Databases: OXYODS, OpenWells, operational and financial planning systems
- BI Tools: Power BI, Spotfire
- Data Types: Drilling/completions data, timelines, KPIs, cost data, milestone dates
- Tools: SSMS, SQL query tools, Excel, Power BI, Spotfire, Git/Azure DevOps
- Directly support D&C teams driving upstream operations in the Rockies region.
- Work with modern data systems supporting large‑scale oil & gas operations.
- Influence high‑impact decisions tied to well delivery and capital efficiency.
- Lead automation and innovation efforts that improve operational performance.
