The Opportunity As a Data Engineer, you will design, build and enhance the data ingestion layer and core data engineering framework that underpins reporting, analytics and advanced data use cases across the business.
You will:
• Develop and operate reliable batch and near real time ingestion pipelines from a variety of data sources
• Ensure high standards of data quality, lineage and observability
• Maintain and improve shared data engineering libraries, patterns and templates to drive productivity and reuse
• Build scalable data processing solutions in Databricks for transformation, enrichment and curation
• Optimise performance and cost across pipelines and compute workloads
• Support streaming and event driven architectures where appropriate, including CDC and Kafka based patterns
• Contribute to CI CD, automated testing and release processes for pipelines and framework components
• Partner with analytics engineers, data scientists, product teams and business stakeholders to deliver trusted and high quality datasets
About You To be successful in this role, you will bring:
• Strong Python expertise in data engineering, including pipeline orchestration, framework development, testing and packaging
• Solid experience with SQL and data modelling principles
• A strong understanding of modern ETL and ELT approaches in lakehouse or big data environments
• Practical experience with version control, CI CD and automated testing for data pipelines
Nice to Have • Experience building streaming pipelines using Kafka, Event Hubs, Databricks Structured Streaming or CDC patterns
• Strong knowledge of Databricks including Delta Tables, Spark, Unity Catalog and file storage formats
• Exposure to data governance practices including lineage, access controls and privacy by design
• 3 to 5 years of experience delivering production grade data solutions within an enterprise environment
