Key Responsibilities  
Key roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Capture, analysis, implementation and distribution of lessons from any work undertaken.  
  • Develop work processes to aid agile working practices.
  • Lead contract identification requirements through to contract execution. This will include but not be limited to scope preparation through to technical evaluation.
  • Conduct or participate in root cause analysis on incidents or accidents.
  • Optimisation identification, justification and implementation.
  • Attend and present at pre-spud meetings, stage gate reviews etc.
  • Train, mentor and develop more junior National drilling engineers.
  • Interact with subsurface team on SOR development and subsurface requirements
  • Ensure the Rumaila Well Delivery Process is adhered to in full.
  • Initiate and or participate in audits to validate our service companies SMS & technical /operational procedures as required.
  • Ensure sufficient equipment ordered and or in stock for ongoing rig operations.
  • Review and / or endorse service company documents when COMPANY input required.
  • Ensure service company programmes comply with standards.
  • Facilitate delivery of vertical, deviated and high angle drilling programs for allocated rigs.
  • Ensure well handovers, well acceptance documents, end of well reports, studies, technical reports and routine communications are delivered in a timely manner and in adherence to quality expectations.   
  • Ensure filing is conducted of all daily / end of well reports.
  • Assurance of the technical integrity of the operations and compliance with in-country law, and international standards and guidelines.
  • Arrange and facilitate contractor performance improvement meetings as and when required.
  • Help the Rumaila greater wells community with contract preparation, evaluation, performance / KPI monitoring / tracking and compliance.
  • Initiate and or contribute to technical improvement projects.
  • Initiate and or contribute to engineering research projects.

Criteria & qualifications
  • Have worked within the drilling industry at least 10 years overall and in the role of Drilling Engineer of 5 years.
  • Educated to at least degree level (B.Sc.) in an engineering discipline, preferably petroleum or mechanical.
  • Team player, fluent in English language with strong communication skills is essential.
  • Experience working for an international major operator is preferred.
  • Experience developing drilling procedures and programs for directional wells required.
  • Experience in pad drilling campaigns preferred.
  • Experience with drilling software programs such as Landmark, Compass required.  
  • Detailed knowledge of drilling & completion design, engineering and planning is essential.
