Job Specification: Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer
Project Type: Pilot‑Scale Clean‑Fuel Process Plant

Role Overview A pioneering clean‑fuel pilot plant is moving into fabrication, installation, and commissioning, and requires a skilled Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer to deliver all E&I elements across the facility. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in hands‑on, technically diverse environments and wants to contribute to a first‑of‑its‑kind sustainability technology.
You will work across multiple process skids, supporting installation, automation integration, functional testing, and early operations alongside process, mechanical, controls, and safety teams.

You will work across multiple process skids, supporting installation, automation integration, functional testing, and early operations alongside process, mechanical, controls, and safety teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical Engineering
- Oversee electrical installation and power distribution to modular skid‑based equipment.
- Develop cable schedules, routing, termination details, and power‑up workflows.
- Ensure proper design and installation of Ex‑rated electrical systems for hazardous areas.
- Support implementation of grounding, bonding, lightning, and overvoltage protection.
- Manage electrical interfaces between the plant skids and host facility utilities.
- Select, specify, and configure field instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, level).
- Support installation, calibration, loop checks, and functional verification.
- Integrate analysers and sampling systems required for high‑accuracy process data capture.
- Prepare and maintain datasheets, instrument index, I/O lists, loop diagrams, and hook‑ups.
- Ensure all instrumentation complies with relevant hazardous‑area standards.
- Assist with integration of field devices into the plant’s PLC/DCS automation system.
- Contribute to alarm & shutdown logic, Cause & Effect matrices, and control philosophies.
- Support FAT/SAT of control panels, skid packages, and automation systems.
- Perform instrument loop checks, electrical testing, and system commissioning.
- Contribute to mechanical completion and punch‑list resolution.
- Troubleshoot E&I issues during energisation, hot commissioning, and early operations.
- Ensure all E&I work aligns with project safety, quality, and compliance standards.
- Review vendor documentation for instruments, analyzers, electrical systems, and packaged equipment.
- Engage with fabrication partners, skid suppliers, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Support smooth interface management across mechanical, process, automation, and site engineering functions.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Automation, or similar.
- Experience in E&I roles within chemical, energy, or process‑plant environments (pilot or commercial).
- Strong understanding of hazardous‑area (ATEX/IECEx) requirements.
- Hands‑on commissioning and troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with PLC/DCS‑based control systems.
- Experience with modular skid‑based systems.
- Exposure to flammable feedstocks or reactive process systems.
- Knowledge of sampling and analytical instrumentation.
- Background in R&D, pilot plants, or new‑technology deployment.
