Biosecurity and Ecology Advisor – 24 month contract – 15/13 FIFO
NES Fircroft have partnered with a leading energy business who are seeking an experienced Biosecurity and Ecology Advisor to provide specialist environmental advice and assurance across biosecurity, vegetation management, and ecological compliance. This role will act as the technical focal point for biosecurity and land management, supporting operational continuity, regulatory compliance, and positive stakeholder engagement across assets and operations.

This role will act as the technical focal point for biosecurity and land management, supporting operational continuity, regulatory compliance, and positive stakeholder engagement across assets and operations.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for mitigating environmental and biosecurity risks by:
- Acting as the focal point for biosecurity and land management matters to enable ongoing land access and operations, including providing technical advice to landholders, regulators, and industry working groups
• Implementing and coordinating an ISO 14001 accredited environmental management system to minimise risk and deliver cost effective, strategic biosecurity and ecological improvements while ensuring regulatory compliance
• Supporting delivery and monitoring of adaptive land management frameworks that balance operational requirements such as asset integrity and safe access with protected plant, reinstatement, and rehabilitation obligations
• Conducting in field assurance activities including incident investigations, corrective action reporting, training delivery, and environmental and biosecurity awareness sessions across business units
• Providing quality assurance support and assisting with administrative and technical tasks to maintain operational continuity, prioritise scopes of work, and address landholder concerns

About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in environmental science, ecology, or environmental management
• Experience in biosecurity, agronomy, field ecology, or vegetation management, ideally within the Brigalow Belt bioregion
• Demonstrated experience undertaking site assessments, environmental reporting, and developing and implementing environmental management plans
• Strong working knowledge of Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislation relating to biosecurity, vegetation, and fauna management, with emphasis on General Biosecurity Obligations
• Experience engaging with landholders and regulators within the oil and gas or broader resources sector, which is highly regarded
• Competency in vehicle and equipment cleaning and inspection for biosecurity purposes, including light and heavy vehicles used during survey, construction, and operations
• Experience inspecting source and stored materials and completing Biosecurity Declarations
• A Commercial Operator Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control Licence or equivalent competencies
• Experience in contractor management, including safe systems of work, forecasting, and scheduling
• Field experience in erosion and sediment control and rehabilitation of construction sites, which is highly regarded
• Strong report writing and presentation skills, with a proactive and collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement
• Confidence to share insights and challenge constructively while supporting agreed decisions
• A continuous improvement mindset with a strong focus on simplification and efficiency
