Lead Lifting Specialist 

Overview:
  • The objective of this role is to support the Wells Department Management, HSE Wells Team Lead and the HSE Lifting Technical Authority by delivering a high level of assurance regarding health and safety risks associated with lifting operations and lifting equipment within the client Concession.
  • This role requires 2 persons working b2b on a 28-day rota. 
  • This position will primarily focus on supporting the Wells Department Rig Audit Team in delivering lifting operations and equipment audits on land-based drilling and workover rigs and well service equipment.
  • These audits are structured around initial acceptance, regular 12 monthly, spot audits and will involve review of lifting equipment certification.
Responsibilities:
  • Carry out drilling and workover rig and wells service unit acceptance, annual and spot audits as required and instructed by the Wells Department Leadership team
  • Continually liaise with the Wells Department HSE Team Lead, the HSE Lifting Technical Authority and Departmental HSE Leadership to ensure lifting, and handling standards are consistently respected and applied.
  • Work closely with Wells contractors to ensure technically acceptable lifting procedures and other related documentation.
  • Review of contractors’ lifting procedures against client procedures for inclusion in the Contractor HSE Bridging Document.
  • Ensure all personnel involved in lifting operations have the required training, experience, and competence to perform the category of lift.
  • Act as lifting representative for lifting operations on rig site and/or contractor facilities. 
  • Mentoring and monitoring lifting processes, lifting operations catagorisation, hazard identification, risk evaluation, and professional analysis of lifting procedures.
  • Coach and mentor all Wells contractors and staff with regards to lifting operations
  • Observe and assure the safety, procedural and legislative compliance of lifting operations.
  • Communicate potential lifting issues to Department Leadership before they impact business performance.
  • Apply and promote industry recommended best practice for all lifting operations and equipment.
  • Ensure lifting accessories, equipment and machinery are fit for use and have the appropriate statutory documentation.
  • Ensure lift plans and risk assessments are respectively developed and conducted for all lifting operations and ensure adequacy for safe and efficient execution of the lifting operations.
  • Support lifting related incident investigations.
  • Coordinate, if required, human resources assigned by client to support the business
Experience, Qualifications & Key Skills:
  • Have a minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant experience in similar multicultural, large onshore upstream operations. 
  • Hold a suitable Engineering Qualification e.g., BTEC Level 3.
  • Hold an A1 Assessor (or similar) assessment qualification. 
  • Rigging Competence (EAL / OPITO / ECITB etc.)
  • Banksman Slinger Competence (EAL / OPITO / ECITB / CPCS etc.)
  • Be familiar with all types of drilling components and equipment with a particular focus on lifting operational elements.
  • Extensive demonstratable working experience in lifting operations at senior or supervisory level, preferably with exposure to the Middle East region.
  • Solid experience on Wells lifting operations & protocols. supported onshore drilling activities rigs and rig-less wells services operations.
  • Land based rig move experience.
  • Extensive experience related to the completion of on-site rig and well service unit, acceptance, annual and spot audits
  • Demonstratable experience working with a variety of mobile/crawler cranes and other heavy lifting equipment.
  • Demonstratable knowledge of HSE and lifting related international legislation, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Proven health and safety leadership skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to distill key messages in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, along with good attention to details.
  • Demonstratable knowledge of lifting equipment and accessories inspection and discard criteria.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a wide range of people in a multi-cultural environment through networking influence, coaching and teamwork.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
