Job Purpose (high level overview) The Material Controller is responsible for managing, monitoring, and controlling the flow of materials and inventory within the organization. This role ensures accurate record-keeping, timely availability of materials, and compliance with organisational policies to support production, procurement, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities Monitor and control all incoming and outgoing materials to ensure accuracy and timely availability.
Maintain accurate inventory records using ERP or inventory management systems.
Conduct regular stock audits and reconcile discrepancies.
Coordinate with procurement, production, and warehouse teams to ensure material requirements are met.
Implement inventory control procedures to minimise wastage, pilferage, and stock-outs.
Track material usage, prepare reports, and provide insights to management for decision-making.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards related to material handling.
Assist in forecasting material requirements and optimizing inventory levels.
Handle documentation for material receipts, transfers, and issues.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proven experience in material control, inventory management, or warehouse operations.
Strong knowledge of inventory management systems (ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, etc.).
Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in record-keeping.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Strong communication and reporting skills.
Education and Experience Third level qualification in Logistics, Materials Management, or a related field.
Technical Support College Diploma/High School Diploma and advanced relevant experience, or equivalent. A college certificate relevant to the field is usually expected. At this level, transition into a professional/management role may occur.
Working Environment Standard Office Environment. May be required to travel and/or have overnight trips. Hours worked may exceed regular schedule.
Physical Effort Little chance of injury. Duties may involve sitting, standing, keyboarding with frequent flexible breaks.
