Project Large-scale LNG Import Terminal / Energy Infrastructure Project

  Job Summary The Mechanical & Welding Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and inspecting all mechanical installation and welding activities on a major LNG terminal project in Brunsbüttel, Germany. The role has a strong focus on welding quality, NDT coordination, and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) to ensure full compliance with project specifications, international codes, and stringent LNG safety and quality standards.

The position plays a key role in ensuring mechanical works are completed safely, to the highest quality, and in line with schedule and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities Mechanical & Welding Supervision
  • Supervise day-to-day mechanical installation activities, including piping, pipe racks, vessels, structural steel interfaces, and mechanical equipment.
  • Oversee welding activities across carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials used in LNG facilities.
  • Ensure all works comply with approved IFC drawings, WPS, PQRs, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate welding crews, mechanical subcontractors, and third-party inspection teams.
Welding Quality & Inspection
  • Ensure welding activities comply with ASME, EN, ISO, and project-specific standards.
  • Verify welder qualifications and continuity records.
  • Monitor fit-up, pre-heat, welding, PWHT (if applicable), and post-weld activities.
  • Review and manage welding documentation, weld maps, and traceability records.
NDT & Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Coordinate and oversee Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities, including:
    • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
    • Radiographic Testing (RT)
    • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
    • Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Ensure UT and other NDT inspections are carried out in accordance with approved ITPs, codes, and client requirements.
  • Review and validate NDT reports, UT scans, and inspection results.
  • Identify defects, ensure repairs are carried out correctly, and verify re-testing and acceptance.
Health, Safety & LNG Compliance
  • Enforce strict HSE standards in line with LNG terminal safety requirements and German regulations.
  • Ensure all mechanical and welding works comply with permit-to-work systems and risk assessments.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and site inspections.
  • Promote a strong safety culture in high-risk LNG construction environments.
Coordination & Reporting
  • Liaise with Construction Managers, QA/QC, Engineering, and Commissioning teams.
  • Monitor progress and report on mechanical completion, welding status, and NDT results.
  • Support system completion, punch list management, and mechanical handover activities.
  • Prepare daily and weekly reports covering progress, inspections, NDT status, and HSE observations.
Requirements & Qualifications Education
  • Technical qualification or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience
  • Minimum 5–10 years’ experience supervising mechanical and welding works on large industrial or energy projects.
  • Proven experience on LNG, oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial projects is strongly preferred.
  • Strong hands-on experience with NDT and Ultrasonic Testing supervision in a construction environment.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical construction, piping systems, and welding processes.
  • In-depth understanding of UT principles, acceptance criteria, and defect evaluation.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards and codes such as ASME, EN, ISO, DIN, API.
  • Experience with ITPs, NCRs, punch lists, weld tracking systems, and completion documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, isometrics, and specifications.
Certifications (Preferred / Advantage)
  • Welding Inspector certification (CSWIP, IWI, AWS CWI or equivalent).
  • NDT certification (UT Level II or III).
  • Safety certification (NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).
Languages
  • English required (working language on site).
  • German or Spanish language skills are a strong advantage.
