OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in mission-critical environments to support the design, delivery, and commissioning of a major data centre project in Paris. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing mechanical design solutions, ensuring system resilience, and maintaining stringent uptime requirements typical of hyperscale facilities.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Engineering
  • Lead the mechanical design for data centre infrastructure, including HVAC, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, ventilation, heat rejection, fuel systems, and fire protection.
  • Prepare and review schematic designs, detailed designs, equipment schedules, and technical specifications.
  • Ensure designs comply with European, French, and client-specific engineering standards, including mission critical best practice.
  • Perform load calculations, energy modelling, system sizing, and resilience analysis for mechanical systems.
Project Delivery
  • Oversee mechanical packages throughout all project stages: concept, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Work closely with electrical, structural, BMS, and architectural teams to deliver coordinated solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership during factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and integrated systems testing (IST).
  • Manage interfaces with contractors, subcontractors, and equipment vendors, ensuring quality and compliance.
Commissioning & Quality Assurance
  • Support development of commissioning scripts and test plans for mechanical systems.
  • Review commissioning results, troubleshoot issues, and validate system performance against design intent.
  • Ensure all mechanical systems meet Tier level and redundancy requirements (e.g., N+1, N+2).
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as a primary mechanical engineering contact for the client.
  • Present design solutions, progress updates, and technical reports.
  • Assist with value engineering, risk reviews, and change management.
RequirementsTechnical Experience
  • 7–12+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 5 years in mission critical/data centre projects.
  • Proven experience with:
    • Chiller plants, cooling towers, heat exchangers, pumps
    • DX cooling, liquid cooling, free cooling systems
    • Fuel systems and fire suppression (FM200, IG55, Novec)
    • Mechanical redundancy strategies for high-availability facilities
  • Strong understanding of ASHRAE, EN standards, and Tier classification (Uptime Institute).
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar).
  • Chartered status (CEng/Ingénieur Diplomé) preferred.
  • Familiarity with software such as AutoCAD, Revit, CFD, and energy modelling tools.
Soft Skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and mentor junior engineers.
  • Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on reliability and energy efficiency.
Desirable
  • Previous experience working on data centre projects or Mission Critical projects in Europe or France.
  • French and English language skills (essential)
  • Experience with hyperscale clients or advanced cooling technologies (e.g., liquid cooling, immersion cooling).
