Job Title: Occupational Health Nurse
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Length: 2 year (with potential extension)
Rotation: Monday – Friday

Role Summary
Provides professional occupational health nursing services in support of Imperial’s integrated Occupational Health programs. Delivers clinical assessments, health surveillance, disability case management support, and workers’ compensation coordination across multiple business units. Ensures high‑quality, evidence‑based care while maintaining compliance with regulatory, corporate, and privacy requirements.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide occupational health services within the professional scope and standards of nursing practice, as defined by Occupational Health Division Management.
  • Determine employees’ fitness‑for‑work through clinical and evidence‑based assessments, including safety‑sensitive and executive occupational evaluations (OE).
  • Collect health data through occupational health histories, physical assessments, and clinical screening (e.g., HbA1c).
  • Assess clinical test results, arrange follow‑up evaluations, refer for further investigation, and communicate results as required.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee health records in compliance with data privacy requirements.
  • Conduct occupational evaluations in accordance with company policies and regulatory obligations.
  • Support administration of the health centre, including scheduling occupational examinations, managing medical inventory, tracking equipment, and ordering supplies.
  • Support Disability Case Management for employee illnesses and injuries in collaboration with third‑party disability vendors and OHD Disability Case Management Advisors (DCMA).
  • Coordinate and support workers’ compensation claims processes.
  • Provide guidance to employees on illness and injury prevention, health promotion, wellness, and community health resources.
  • Coordinate travel health medical assessments for business‑related travel.
  • Support alcohol and drug case management activities.
  • Provide emergency treatment for occupational and non‑occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Collaborate and communicate with management on occupational health issues and emerging trends.
  • Develop and deliver occupational health and wellness programs.
  • Provide Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) support for Occupational Health.
 
Role Scope
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulations, corporate policies, and professional nursing standards.
  • Contributes to operational safety, risk management, and continuous improvement of occupational health programs.
  • Supports health surveillance, case management, and program delivery with minimal oversight.
  • Maintains high standards of clinical practice, documentation, and employee confidentiality.
 
Qualifications
  • Nursing Diploma, Nursing Degree, Advanced Nursing Degree, or Nurse Practitioner Degree.
  • Current or eligible unrestricted registration with the provincial or territorial nursing regulatory body for the primary work location.
  • In good standing with the applicable provincial licensing organization(s).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of related occupational health or clinical experience preferred.
  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN(C)) preferred.
  • Audiometry and spirometry certification preferred.
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification preferred.
  • Completion of a physical health assessment course may be required.
