Project Controls Cost Estimator Location: Alaska‑based role with travel across North America (Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver)
Reporting to: Project Controls Lead

About the Role We are seeking a highly experienced Project Controls Cost Estimator to support a large, complex capital project within the mining or heavy civil construction sector. This role is responsible for leading the development and integration of accurate, comprehensive project cost estimates across multiple EPCM contractors, ensuring alignment with project standards, objectives, and governance requirements.
The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in cost estimating, strong leadership capability, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, procurement, construction, and project controls teams to deliver robust project cost estimates.
Key Responsibilities
Candidates must be willing and able to work in both US and Canadian locations and travel as required across North America.

About the Role We are seeking a highly experienced Project Controls Cost Estimator to support a large, complex capital project within the mining or heavy civil construction sector. This role is responsible for leading the development and integration of accurate, comprehensive project cost estimates across multiple EPCM contractors, ensuring alignment with project standards, objectives, and governance requirements.
The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in cost estimating, strong leadership capability, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, procurement, construction, and project controls teams to deliver robust project cost estimates.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of detailed project cost estimates based on defined scope, specifications, and contract proposals.
- Coordinate with EPCM project teams to gather schedule and cost data, analyze trends, and resolve estimate‑related issues.
- Analyze project requirements to identify labour, materials, equipment, and service needs.
- Apply benchmarking data, historical pricing, and industry‑standard estimating software to produce accurate and defensible estimates.
- Work closely with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to validate estimate assumptions, basis, and inputs.
- Provide leadership and direction to a team of cost estimating engineers.
- Prepare and present consolidated project cost estimates across all EPCMs for senior management and key stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Professional certifications such as PMP or CCP are highly desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in cost estimating for large‑scale capital projects.
- Experience within the mining or heavy civil construction sector is strongly preferred.
- Proven expertise in cost estimating methodologies, tools, and best practices.
- Strong proficiency with industry‑standard estimating software.
- Exceptional analytical, numerical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across technical and non‑technical teams.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and collaborate across functional and project environments.
