Project Manager – Fixed Plant / Infrastructure (Trade Background)

About the Role

An operating coal mine in the Hunter Valley is seeking an experienced Project Manager with a mechanical or electrical trade background for a 6–12 month contract engagement. This role is responsible for safely delivering projects across fixed plant, electrical infrastructure, shutdown works and closure-related scopes while ensuring compliance with NSW mining legislation and site safety standards. The position requires strong contractor management capability, practical field knowledge, and the ability to execute works within an operating site without disrupting production.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of sustaining capital and infrastructure projects.
  • Manage brownfield upgrades across conveyors, crushers, CHPP, pumping systems, HV/LV electrical infrastructure and associated assets.
  • Coordinate plant shutdown works including major component replacements and structural upgrades.
  • Deliver projects with minimal impact to operational schedules.
Decommissioning & Closure Works
  • Manage plant and equipment decommissioning scopes.
  • Oversee electrical isolations, disconnections and asset strip-out.
  • Coordinate demolition contractors and rehabilitation-related infrastructure works.
  • Ensure compliance with closure planning and environmental requirements.
Contractor Management
  • Supervise and manage multiple contractors on site.
  • Review and approve SWMS, lift studies and work methodologies.
  • Ensure works are completed in accordance with WHS (Mining) Regulations NSW.
  • Hold contractors accountable for safety, quality and schedule performance.
Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain full compliance with site safety management systems.
  • Ensure high-risk activities (lifting, confined space, HV, demolition) are executed safely.
  • Work closely with maintenance and operations teams to manage risk in live plant environments.
  • Support statutory obligations under NSW mining legislation.
Stakeholder Coordination
  • Liaise with Maintenance Superintendents, Engineering teams and Operations.
  • Coordinate shutdown schedules and resource planning.
  • Provide clear reporting on cost, schedule and risk.
About You

Essential
  • Trade qualification (Mechanical Fitter, Electrician or equivalent).
  • Project Management qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering projects within a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong contractor management experience.
  • Proven experience managing works in brownfield operating sites.
  • Sound knowledge of isolation procedures and high-risk work controls.
  • Experience delivering projects within strict safety and compliance frameworks.
Desirable
  • Experience in coal mining operations.
  • Exposure to decommissioning or closure-related projects.
  • HV infrastructure or fixed plant upgrade experience.
