We are looking for a Research Scientist (Protein) on a 2 year contract working at a globally renowned research centre at Jealott's Hill, Bracknell. 36hrs per week, Mon-Fri.
Job Role:
We are looking for a hardworking, motivated individual who is quick to learn and apply themselves to join our dynamic, collaborative and industrious protein production team. This is a fully lab based two-year contract to support the execution of protein expression, purification and production projects requiring multi mg quantities of proteins. This role offers the opportunity for the successful candidate to gain hands on experience with protein expression in microbial/other host systems and protein purification.

Role profile and expectations:
- Work as part of a protein production team to deliver multi-mg quantities of purified protein to support our client’s critical projects.
- Learn and conduct the necessary analytical methods to validate final samples meet defined specifications.
- Accurately record results to agreed company standards.
- Prepare technical reports, present findings within project groups.
- Work safely and with due care to others ensuring compliance with company HSE policies.
Essential skills & experience:
- Practical experience of recombinant protein expression systems such as E.coli.
- Good theoretical understanding of chromatography techniques including affinity, ion exchange (IEX), hydrophobic interaction (HIC) and size exclusion (SEC) chromatography.
- Ability to characterise proteins using SDS-PAGE, western blot to ensure required protein specifications and quality are met before handing the protein for downstream uses.
- Some evidence of troubleshooting and innovative problem solving.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and planning skills.
Desirable experience:
- 1-2 years lab experience working in any of the core areas highlighted in the above job description
- Working with AKTA and Kingfisher purification systems
- Experience with data management tools (e.g. Benchling)
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant science e.g. Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical or other similar disciplines OR
- Master’s degree or 1-2 years’ experience working in a laboratory environment
