Senior Engagement Specialist

An established renewable energy developer is seeking a Senior Engagement Specialist to join its Development Team. This is a newly created role designed to strengthen Indigenous and community engagement capabilities as the organization continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio.

This is a senior-level position responsible for leading regulatory and community engagement activities in support of renewable energy development projects, including wind, solar, and battery energy storage. The successful candidate will play a critical role in building and maintaining trusted relationships with Indigenous Nations, communities, and regulatory stakeholders.

This position requires a strategic thinker who can oversee engagement programs, mentor team members, and align engagement initiatives with complex regulatory and development schedules.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide oversight of regulatory and community engagement requirements across multiple development projects
  • Oversee and direct the work of external consultants, including scope definition, coordination, and performance management
  • Lead the development and implementation of Indigenous and community engagement strategies and processes
  • Ensure engagement activities align with applicable provincial and federal regulatory frameworks
  • Integrate engagement schedules with overall regulatory and development timelines
  • Build and maintain respectful, long-term relationships with Indigenous Nations and community partners
  • Provide engagement support in high-sensitivity or high-risk contexts
  • Support consultation processes, community meetings, and engagement events
  • Oversee the development of engagement materials, presentations, and communication documents
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to engagement and community relations team members
  • Support internal collaboration between development, regulatory, and project teams
  • Contribute to engagement-related risk management planning
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Indigenous and community engagement, regulatory consultation, or stakeholder relations, preferably within renewable energy, infrastructure, or natural resources
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing engagement strategies with Indigenous Nations
  • Strong understanding of regulatory processes related to renewable energy development
  • Experience working in high-sensitivity or complex engagement environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including facilitation and presentations
  • Strong relationship-building skills grounded in respect, cultural awareness, and collaboration
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel as required
