Senior Mechanical Project Engineer
12‑Month Contract | Immediate Start | SoR
$120/hr + Super
 
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to deliver a portfolio of brownfield engineering projects within a major industrial processing environment. This is a full‑time 12‑month contract, with the potential for extension, working onsite.
 
In this role, you’ll provide technical and project engineering support across multiple small‑to‑medium capital projects (typically up to ~$1m). You will work closely with operations, maintenance, project services and external engineering partners to ensure safe, efficient and high‑quality project delivery.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and deliver multiple brownfield mechanical projects from concept through to construction and close‑out
  • Provide mechanical engineering support, technical review and discipline oversight
  • Lead and participate in design reviews, constructability assessments and HAZOPs
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications and vendor documentation
  • Respond to technical queries, assess deviations and support onsite construction teams
  • Support Pre‑FEED and FEED activities with external engineering consultants
  • Ensure compliance with relevant AS, API and ASME standards
  • Coordinate closely with operations and stakeholders to minimise plant disruptions
  • Drive safety‑focused decision‑making throughout all project phases
 
About You
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Significant experience in petrochemical, mining, processing or heavy industrial environments
  • Strong technical background in static equipment (pressure vessels, piping, tanks, heat exchangers)
  • Proven experience delivering brownfield modifications in operating plants
  • Solid understanding of AS, API and ASME codes and standards
  • Able to manage several concurrent projects and competing priorities
  • Confident communicator with strong stakeholder and contractor management skills
  • Safety‑driven, practical, and comfortable working in operational facilities
