Background
Our client has been present in Mozambique since 2006; their Coral-Sul FLNG is the first floating LNG facility ever deployed in the deep waters of the African continent. The FLNG facility is large at 432 meters long and 66 meters wide, weighing around 220,000 tons and with the capacity to accommodate up to 350 people in its eight-story living quarter module. The fabrication of the module took place in South Korea where we have supported the project for over 3 years with the provision of local and expatriate candidates.
The Challenge
The project was the first of its kind and the client needed a large volume of contractors to kick-start the initiative at the fabrication phase. The client sought to engage both expatriate and local talent pools to onboard 25+ skilled contractors across engineering, construction and commissioning disciplines. The scope of work required a recruitment agency which could support the project on an international basis as it progressed through its various stages across South Korea, France and the UK. This meant the client needed a supplier with a local set-up to both achieve compliance with varying international legislation, and to leverage the local talent pool in each location.
The market was especially tight so to remain competitive and to ensure things went smoothly, the client also needed a recruitment partner that would demonstrate comprehensive contractor care to help workers settle into their new working environment and to mitigate any potential culture shock.
Due to our strong reputation supporting large-scale fabrication projects in the region, the client approached NES Fircroft to supply contractors for the entire project life-cycle, right through from the engineering phase to construction and operation.
Our Solution
Our existing global infrastructure and dedication to compliance throughout our process was key to the success of this hiring drive. NES Fircroft assigned a dedicated Account Manager based at our Geoje office to handle all contract staffing requirements for our client. The Account Manager was backed by recruitment and support teams in the UK and France who collaboratively orchestrated the candidate search and all contractor management services.
Providing superior service is a key priority for our team and to date we have supported the client with:
- Full onboarding compliance (including contractor medicals and background screening).
- Travel organisation (without the contractor footing the initial bill), including any necessary airport meet and greets and orientation services, to ease logistics and to help them settle into their new working environment.
- Comprehensive payroll services and tailored payslips which show all leave accruals for contractor satisfaction, adhering to appropriate legislation for nationals and expatriates.
- Organising training courses, so workers can hit the ground running on the project site and understand all HSE requirements.
We pro-actively built strong relationships with all levels of management, specifically the decision makers on the ground, enabling us to grow rapidly in terms of contractor numbers and our perceived brand recognition on the client's site. This approach also allowed us to go beyond the generic hiring requirements passed on by their project management office and enabled us to truly understand what they were looking for technically and culturally for new roles being filled.
The Results
As a result of our comprehensive offering, we became a “one stop shop” for the client and were the leading agency for expatriates on the project.
- We achieved 100% success with visas and work permits
- We placed staff on a global basis across South Korea, the UK, and Paris
- Our teams interviewed 100+ candidates, with 60+ candidates shortlisted
- The calibre of our candidates was so high that 50% reached the second interview stage
Thanks to our support the client was able to engage talent on global basis, compliantly, and stay within budget whilst meeting their project deadlines. To this day we continue to work with the client on their hiring needs across the globe.
