Case Study - Alternative Energy

Sourcing a Chief Technology Commercialisation Officer

Our client has patented a unique, solvent-based technology which offers a safe, low-cost way to remove carbon dioxide from emissions using a post-combustion capture approach.

Our client needed to secure a Board-level hire amongst other key positions to ensure that their strict deadlines were adhered to, in just 4 weeks.

The Client's Hiring Challenges

Our client is backed by a major investment company which had imposed a finite 18-month deadline in which to get their new carbon capture technology commercialised.

To fulfill this scope, the client needed to secure a Board-level hire amongst other key positions to ensure that their strict deadlines were adhered to, in just 4 weeks. The hires needed to be based in the UK.

This was a very specialist hire and at the time took place within a fledgling industry.

Required vacancies were:

  • Chief Technology Commercialisation Officer
  • Principal Process Engineers (x2)

Through an existing relationship with one of the client’s major investors, we were recommended to support the scope.

Our Recruitment Solution

Our existing knowledge of the client’s technology and candidate networks in the alternative energy market meant we could act with pace.

market expertise

Head-hunting

As the industry was fairly new, there was an exceptionally small number of candidates with relevant experience in the open market. To tap into this niche vertical we orchestrated a confidential head-hunting activity to target personnel with relevant and transferable skills.

Contractor Management

Efficiency & Consultancy

Our demonstrable market experience in CCS and the wider energy industry meant that we were able to access and approach appropriate individuals quickly, and act in a consultative capacity in order to advise our client regarding the most viable options.

Consultancy

Communication

At all times we kept stakeholders informed via weekly conference calls with the interview panel, including their existing CTO, CEO and their third party investors.

Results

From 5 shortlisted candidates for the CTCO, 3 made it to a second stage interview, resulting in a successful placement within the deadline. We also secured both Principal Process Engineers who were instrumental in driving our client’s operational output. Our support was so impactful that the client has since introduced us into their European and North American business ventures.
