Accountant

We are working with our oil and gas client seeking an Accountant to join them on an initial contract up to 3 months. The Accountant undertakes a range of levies, payroll, treasury, financial reporting and financial management activities. This role forms part of the Finance Team and reports directly to the Assistant Director Finance and Procurement.

Key Responsibilities

The Levies function:

• Administration of levies in accordance with (Regulatory Levies) Regulations 2004 and other legislation as applicable to the client.
• Planning and preparation of all levy notifications (monthly, quarterly, annually and adhoc) including accurate calculations and subsequent collection of accounts receivable.
• Liaising with duty holders and resolving stakeholder queries relating to levy payments, escalating to the Regulatory Teams as and when required to resolve levy issues

The Payroll Function:

• Planning, preparation, analysis, and processing of fortnightly payroll including fortnight and month end reconciliations and reporting
• Responding to payroll queries, escalation or seeking advice where required, to ensure a timely resolution

The Treasury Function:

• Assisting with the internal controls of the clients financial system, ensuring the Treasury function has a comprehensive and sound framework to enable best practice as a Commonwealth corporate entity.
• Preparing weekly cash flow forecast to ensure availability of funds to meet current operational requirements and surplus fund investment strategies
• Preparing calculation of miscellaneous non-levy related recharges to third parties
• Preparing fortnightly ‘sweeping’ analysis
• Managing Accounts Receivables including following up of late payments
• Maintaining data integrity in Technology One (HR/Payroll system), Commonwealth Bank and Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) an archiving information at appropriate intervals
• Providing support to the Finance Team in the prompt delivery of accounting services to
• The client, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and corporate governance

Financial Function:

• Assisting, as required, with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting including journals and reconciliations
• Assisting with statutory financial reporting and analysis
• Managing all bank reconciliations and special appropriations
• Preparing the monthly Business Activity Statement (BAS)
• Reviewing cash flow requirements to ensure sufficient funds are available to meet operational requirements
• Preparing procedures for all activities within own area of responsibility, which include but not limited to the development of process improvements reflective of best practice and current industry standards.
• working with the Senior Accountants and Senior Business Analyst in the development of cash flow forecasting models for both agency and Commonwealth reporting

Skills/Experience required:

• Possession of a relevant tertiary qualification, preferably with a finance and/or accounting focus.
• Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting practices, including processing of payroll.
• Demonstrated ability to be proactive and work collaboratively to meet deadlines and achieve corporate results and adapt to new situations as necessary.
• Demonstrated experience in the operation of a Financial Management Information System and Payroll System, preferably ‘TechnologyOne’.
