Project Manager – Owner's Representative (Utility-Scale Renewable Energy)
Mileage Reimbursement: Provided for project-related travel.
Position Summary: Our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager (Owner's Representative) to oversee the development and execution of large-scale renewable energy projects. This individual will serve as the central point of coordination between EPC contractors, major equipment suppliers, utility/grid operators, power purchasers, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
This is not a traditional construction management role. The Project Manager will be responsible for managing complex stakeholder interfaces, resolving issues between multiple vendors, driving accountability, and ensuring projects remain on schedule, within budget, and aligned with contractual obligations.
Projects are typically managed one at a time, but they are large, technically complex, and involve numerous external parties.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Owner's Representative throughout project execution.
  • Manage relationships with EPC contractors and major equipment vendors.
  • Coordinate with utility/grid operators (ERCOT, CAISO, or other ISOs/RTOs as applicable).
  • Interface with off-takers and ensure compliance with contractual reporting requirements.
  • Lead coordination between all project stakeholders to eliminate communication gaps.
  • Identify and resolve issues between contractors, vendors, and project partners before they impact schedule or budget.
  • Manage vendor performance and contractual obligations.
  • Review, negotiate, and administer change orders.
  • Maintain and update project schedules while proactively identifying project risks.
  • Lead recurring project coordination meetings and drive action items to completion.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure successful project execution from development through construction.
QualificationsRequired
  • 7+ years of Project Management experience within utility-scale energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience serving as an Owner's Representative, Owner's Engineer, Developer, IPP, or similar client-side role.
  • Strong experience managing EPC contractors and multiple third-party vendors.
  • Experience administering contracts and managing change orders.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to independently solve problems across multiple organizations.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities.
Preferred
  • Utility-scale Solar
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Transmission
  • Power Generation
  • Large Infrastructure Projects
Experience working with ERCOT, CAISO, or other ISOs is a plus—but not required.
Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate enjoys working in entrepreneurial environments where processes are still evolving. They are comfortable wearing multiple hats and don't rely on large corporate support structures to get things accomplished.
This role is ideal for someone who:
  • Thrives in smaller organizations.
  • Takes ownership without waiting for direction.
  • Is proactive rather than reactive.
  • Enjoys solving complex coordination challenges.
  • Can influence contractors and vendors without direct authority.
  • Wants the opportunity to make a visible impact on growing projects and the organization.
Work EnvironmentThis is a hybrid position requiring approximately:
  • 4 days per week in the office.
  • Regular project site visits.
  • Approximately one week per month at remote project sites (depending on project location and phase).
Hiring Timeline Our client follows a "hire slow, move fast" philosophy.
While there is an immediate need, the company is committed to hiring the right individual rather than filling the role quickly. Exceptional candidates can expect an expedited interview process.
Target BackgroundsCandidates from the following environments are highly desirable:
  • Renewable Energy Developers
  • Independent Power Producers (IPPs)
  • Owner's Representative organizations
  • Utility-scale Solar Developers
  • BESS Developers
  • Infrastructure Developers
Less emphasis is placed on candidates who have spent their careers solely with EPC contractors unless they have strong owner-side project management experience.
What Success Looks Like
  • Successfully coordinates multiple external stakeholders without allowing communication breakdowns.
  • Keeps projects moving despite competing priorities and vendor challenges.
  • Anticipates problems before they become schedule impacts.
  • Drives accountability across contractors and suppliers.
  • Operates as the "hub" connecting every major party involved in project execution.
