Job Title: Construction Safety Consultant
Location: Quebec City, QC
Length: 1 Year (with potential extension)
Rotation: TBD
 
Role Summary
The CM Safety Consultant is responsible for representing Invenergy across multiple construction projects, providing safety and risk management services to ensure a safe working environment. This role requires frequent travel to project sites and strong collaboration with both Invenergy personnel and contractors to positively influence project safety culture.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
Project Coordination & Travel
  • Provide a monthly schedule of site visits (if covering multiple projects) prior to the 1st of each month to the CM and Invenergy Construction EHS leadership.
  • Confirm site work schedules and availability before planning visits.
  • Notify CM in advance of arrival and check in at the site trailer upon arrival.
  • Issue reminder emails at least one week prior to site visits.
  • Notify CM prior to leaving site daily (in person where possible).
 
Site Engagement & Support
  • Attend Plan of Day (POD) and End-of-Day meetings when onsite.
  • If no End-of-Day meeting exists, submit daily summary reports (including photos) via email and in Weekly Report.
  • Participate in:
    • Weekly EHS Construction Safety Calls
    • Monthly EHS Construction Safety Meetings
  • Provide additional safety support upon CM request, including:
    • Presentations and reporting
    • Safety metrics analysis
    • Extended-hours contractor oversight
    • Temporary support during staffing gaps
 
Safety Program Oversight
  • Support and monitor contractor safety programs and initiatives.
  • Review site-specific safety plans and Exhibit K contract requirements.
  • Immediately escalate any non-compliance or deficiencies to EHS leadership.
  • Conduct daily engagement with the contractor’s safety representative.
 
Audits, Inspections & Risk Management
  • Perform and document:
    • Daily safety audits (logged weekly or per visit)
    • Weekly joint inspections with contractor safety representatives
    • Quarterly site audits uploaded to Project Teams and Microsoft Teams
  • Record findings in Invenergy Project Team system, including:
    • Notes
    • Corrective actions
    • Photos
  • Submit audit summaries to:
    • Sr. EHS Manager
    • Project Manager
    • Construction Manager
    • Contractor Safety Representative
 
Incident Management & Reporting
  • Review incidents, near misses, and safety reports.
  • Provide constructive feedback to contractors.
  • Ensure:
    • Initial reports are submitted within 24 hours
    • Full investigations completed within 72 hours
    • Weekly follow-up on corrective and preventive actions
  • Develop and submit Safety Alerts/Bulletins for SIF/SIFp events.
  • Assist contractors with Project Team system training as needed.
 
Field Safety Oversight
  • Review Pre-Job Briefings (PJBs) and Pre-Task Plans (PTPs).
  • Request documentation during field observations.
  • Conduct ongoing field-level safety engagement and risk awareness.
 
Reporting & Documentation
  • Complete and submit:
    • Weekly Safety Consultant Report (required for timesheet approval)
    • Monthly EHS Report (uploaded to Microsoft Teams)
  • Submit weekly reports to:
    • Construction EHS Manager (via link)
    • Project Manager
    • Construction Manager
 
Work Expectations
  • When onsite, work a standard 8-hour day (if site facilities are available).
  • Maintain a maximum of 50 hours per week unless pre-approved in writing by PM/CM.
  • Attend contractor orientations and additional safety training periodically.
