We are currently recruiting an EEHA inspector for a major offshore project in Western Australia, reporting to the Offshore Commissioning Manager on a 3 week on, 3 week off roster (12 hour days).
The EEHA Inspector is responsible for inspecting and verifying electrical equipment in hazardous areas (EEHA) to ensure compliance with Australian standards, particularly AS/NZS 4761, and relevant IEC 60079 requirements. The role supports safe installation, inspection, and certification of Ex equipment for offshore oil & gas facilities.

We are currently recruiting an EEHA inspector for a major offshore project in Western Australia, reporting to the Offshore Commissioning Manager on a 3 week on, 3 week off roster (12 hour days).
The EEHA Inspector is responsible for inspecting and verifying electrical equipment in hazardous areas (EEHA) to ensure compliance with Australian standards, particularly AS/NZS 4761, and relevant IEC 60079 requirements. The role supports safe installation, inspection, and certification of Ex equipment for offshore oil & gas facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed initial and close-out inspections of electrical, instrumentation, telecom, and mechanical equipment installed in hazardous areas on offshore facilities.
- Verify correct selection, installation, and integrity of Ex equipment (Ex d, Ex e, Ex i, Ex n, Ex p where applicable), ensuring compliance with hazardous area classification drawings and equipment certification.
- Inspect cable glands, cable entries, earthing/bonding systems, flameproof joints, and ingress protection to ensure compliance with relevant standards and manufacturer requirements.
- Ensure installations comply with AS/NZS 60079 series (particularly AS/NZS 60079.14 for installation and AS/NZS 60079.17 for inspection and maintenance).
- Conduct inspections in accordance with EEHA competency requirements defined under AS/NZS 4761.
- Complete EEHA inspection checklists, compile inspection records, and maintain traceable records in line with project QA/QC and regulatory requirements.
- Identify non-conformances, raise NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports), and verify that corrective actions are effectively implemented and compliant.
- Witness and verify rectification works, ensuring all defects are properly closed prior to final acceptance.
- Perform punch list verification and confirm closure of all outstanding EEHA-related items prior to commissioning and handover.
- Carry out or verify earth fault loop impedance testing and continuity checks for electrical installations where required.
- Interface with construction, commissioning, and engineering teams to ensure alignment with EEHA requirements and offshore safety expectations.
- Support audits, inspections, and verification activities by regulatory bodies and operators in the Australian offshore environment.
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated competency in EEHA in accordance with AS/NZS 4761 (evidence of training and assessment required).
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in EEHA inspection within offshore oil & gas projects, preferably in Australian waters.
- Strong working knowledge of AS/NZS 60079 series and IECEx certification schemes.
- Experience with offshore construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning phases.
- EEHA competency certification aligned with AS/NZS 4761
- Valid offshore certifications – including BOSIET, MSIC & OGUK medical
- Strong understanding of hazardous area protection techniques (Ex d, Ex e, Ex i, etc.)
- Ability to interpret hazardous area classification drawings and technical documentation
- High attention to detail in inspection and compliance verification
- Strong reporting and documentation skills aligned with QA/QC systems
- Effective communication skills for coordination with offshore teams.
