Job Title: EHS Professional
Location: Oakville, ON
Length: 1 year (with potential extension)
Rotation: Monday - Friday
 
Role Summary
Provides Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) support to field operations, projects, and branch locations. Supports the implementation and continuous improvement of safety programs, regulatory compliance, incident management, training initiatives, and risk mitigation strategies while promoting a strong safety culture across the organization.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure employees and contractors comply with applicable provincial and regulatory EHS requirements.
  • Support Project Management Teams in the implementation of Site-Specific Safety Plans, including Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), hazard and risk assessments, safe work practices, and incident investigations.
  • Assist Senior Location Managers in meeting EHS responsibilities and compliance requirements.
  • Support Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSCs) in fulfilling legislated obligations and requirements.
  • Conduct incident and near-miss investigations to determine root causes, identify trends, develop preventative actions, and communicate lessons learned through company reporting tools.
  • Report workplace injuries to applicable Workers’ Compensation Boards (WCB) and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Maintain and continuously improve EHS programs through updates to hazard assessments, environmental aspects and impacts, JSAs, policies, and procedures in collaboration with Field Operations teams.
  • Support administration and maintenance of EHS Insight software, including quality reviews of safety records and program updates.
  • Coordinate and deliver internal safety training programs, both virtually and in person.
  • Support supplier pre-qualification processes and contractor compliance requirements.
  • Monitor and support Certificate of Recognition (COR) program requirements and customer-specific safety obligations.
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of new EHS initiatives and program enhancements.
  • Travel to project and branch locations to conduct site inspections, audits, and safety assessments as required.
 
Role Scope
  • Ensures compliance with applicable occupational health, safety, and environmental legislation, regulations, and corporate standards.
  • Supports the development and implementation of proactive safety initiatives that reduce incidents and improve operational performance.
  • Provides technical guidance on hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, and corrective action planning.
  • Promotes a positive safety culture through coaching, training, communication, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Supports organizational objectives by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in EHS processes and systems.
 
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline from a recognized college, university, or industry-recognized program; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in an Occupational Health and Safety role within the construction industry.
  • Strong experience in incident investigations, root cause analysis, workplace inspections, hazard assessments, risk analysis, safe work practices, and JSA development.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, and workers’ compensation requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of COR programs and EHS Management Systems, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • Proven leadership capabilities with experience influencing safety culture and supporting organizational change.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships and gain trust across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make informed decisions.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and remote work environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business software applications.
 
Working Conditions
  • Combination of office, remote, and field-based work environments.
  • Regular travel to project and branch locations to perform inspections, audits, and provide operational support.
  • Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required to support investigations, projects, or operational needs.
