Position Summary
The Fitter / Welder I is responsible for fitting, tacking, and welding components in accordance with engineering drawings, welding standards, and assembly specifications. This role supports the assembly and overhaul of gas turbine and compressor equipment within a manufacturing shop environment while maintaining strict quality and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Fit, tack, and weld parts using fixtures to meet drawing specifications and tolerances.
- Perform complete welds to required standards; correct fabrication issues as required.
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and low‑alloy materials using approved procedures.
- Read and interpret complex drawings, blueprints, schematics, and assembly instructions.
- Perform pipe welding in compliance with ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code.
- Maintain required welding certifications (GTAW P8 6G – qualification required).
- Operate welding equipment, cutting rigs, and precision measuring tools.
- Assist with alignments, parts installation, and mechanical assembly.
- Inspect, inventory, clean, and stage parts and assemblies.
- Safely offload incoming parts using proper lifting and rigging methods.
- Work collaboratively with Engineering, Quality Control, Material Control, and production teams.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Accurately complete shop orders and time documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet production needs.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED OR 10+ years of relevant stainless‑steel pipe welding experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in rotating equipment manufacturing or shop assembly environments.
- Experience in welding and cutting processes and industrial fabrication.
- Gas turbine mechanical and overhaul experience preferred.
- Experience turbomachinery rotating‑equipment assembly (RF & Datum compressor ranges) highly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret complex weld symbols, tolerances, and manufacturing drawings.
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Regular standing; occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Use of hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
- May require overtime, weekend work, or alternate shifts.
- Compliance with all EHS standards required.
- COVID‑19 vaccination required unless approved accommodation is granted.
