Duration: 10 months (potential for extension)

Location: Houston, Texas 77095

Summary:
The Welder/Fitter I will work and communicate with Engineering, QC, Material Control, and other crafts in production. The role involves 15% travel. The ideal candidate will be responsible for fitting, tacking, and welding components in accordance with detail drawings and welding standards. Work includes steel channels, brackets, angles, sheathing, assemblies, and subassemblies.

Responsibilities:
  • Follow all safety procedures, policies, and company standards while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Read, review, and interpret complex assembly instructions, engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly.
  • Fit, tack, and weld components using fixtures, ensuring all dimensions meet drawing tolerances and specifications.
  • Perform welding tasks (including GTAW P8 6G) in compliance with ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code or project-specific requirements, and maintain required welding certifications.
  • Complete full welds to required quality standards and correct fabrication errors as needed.
  • Operate cutting rigs, welding equipment, measuring tools, and other hand and power tools across materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and low-alloy metals.
  • Incorporate approved design changes and fabricate shop fixtures based on engineering sketches.
  • Inspect, clean, and prepare components; stage equipment for assembly; and safely offload incoming materials using proper rigging and lifting techniques.
  • Verify dimensions, apply tolerance systems, and ensure all work meets quality and production standards.
  • Accurately complete shop orders, time tracking, and related documentation.
  • Meet production schedules, quality requirements, and labor targets with minimal supervision.
  • Work independently or collaboratively as part of a team, adapting to overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts as needed.
  • Perform routine assignments following standard procedures and basic instructions, along with other duties as required.
  • Adhere to physical requirements, including prolonged standing and occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED or 10+ years relevant (Stainless Steel pipe welding experience, technical certificate and work experience may be considered in lieu of High school)
  • 5+ years relevant experience in Assembly of Rotating Equipment Manufacturing,
  • Generally, five or more years related experience in shop environment.
  • Experience and training in welding and cutting tools and processes. Experience doing gas turbine mechanical work and gas turbine overhaul work preferred.
