This role supports the accounting, analysis, and reporting of commodity and derivative transactions across energy markets, including natural gas and related products. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with Commercial, Risk Management, Operations, and Finance teams in a fast-paced environment focused on energy trading and commodity activities.

We are seeking a General Accounting Senior to join our Commodity Accounting team in Houston. This role supports the accounting, analysis, and reporting of commodity and derivative transactions across energy markets, including natural gas and related products. Commodity & Derivative Accounting
- Support accounting and reporting activities related to commodity transactions and derivative instruments.
- Analyze contractual terms and transaction structures to determine proper accounting treatment.
- Assist with valuation support, mark-to-market accounting, settlement activity, hedge-related accounting impacts, and financial statement disclosures.
- Evaluate and interpret physical and financial transactions and their impact on financial performance.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
- Produce accurate and timely financial reports and supporting schedules for internal and external reporting.
- Ensure the integrity, completeness, and accuracy of accounting records and financial statements.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Perform complex account analyses and reconciliations, identifying issues and implementing appropriate solutions.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve processes and enhance operational efficiency.
- Support internal and external audit activities, including preparation of supporting documentation and responses to audit requests.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Approximately 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of:
- General accounting principles
- Financial reporting
- General ledger accounting
- Account reconciliations
- Financial analysis
- Regulatory compliance
- Financial forecasting and budgeting
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Experience in commodity accounting, including purchase, sale, transportation, storage, or trading transactions.
- Understanding of derivative accounting, including recognition, measurement, valuation, settlement accounting, and disclosure requirements.
- Experience with Energy Trading & Risk Management (ETRM) platforms such as Endur/Openlink.
- CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA certification.
