- The primary purpose of this role is to advise, support, and assist leaders and supervisors in the implementation and continuous improvement of health, safety, and training systems, procedures, and policies across a large-scale operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Coordination
- Develop and implement plans to coordinate day-to-day health and safety activities in line with operational targets
- Communicate plans effectively with supervisors and key stakeholders
- Identify and communicate health, safety, and environmental risks
- Support resource planning and coordination within the area of responsibility
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders
- Provide regular reporting and insights on safety performance
- Support engagement with regulatory bodies and community stakeholders where required
- Promote a strong safety culture aligned with legislative and organisational requirements
- Monitor and support compliance with relevant WHS legislation and internal standards
- Maintain a visible on-site presence and actively engage with frontline teams
- Support hazard identification, risk assessments, and implementation of control measures
- Assist in the development and execution of safety management plans and emergency response procedures
- Contribute to audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Drive a high-performance, safety-focused culture through leadership and influence
- Support leaders in holding teams accountable to safety standards and expectations
- Encourage open communication and proactive safety behaviours
- Promote teamwork and best practice across the operation
- Assist in the development and implementation of health and safety systems and frameworks
- Support the preparation of annual safety plans, budgets, and KPIs
- Maintain reporting systems and analyse safety performance data
- Coordinate workplace monitoring programs (e.g. hygiene, fitness for work)
- Support injury management, workers compensation, and return-to-work processes
- Facilitate contractor engagement and safety forums
- Ensure accurate record-keeping of incidents, investigations, and compliance documentation
- Identify trends and recommend practical solutions to improve safety outcomes
Essential:
- Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of relevant WHS legislation
- Experience in high-risk industries such as mining, construction, or heavy industry
- Qualification in rehabilitation or return-to-work coordination
- Experience in safety auditing or tertiary qualifications in safety-related disciplines
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of an organisation
- Solid analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Competent in Microsoft Office and safety management systems
