We are assisting a large Mining operations with sourcing a HR Coordinator – Payroll individual who will play a critical role within the site-based HR team. This position is Central Queensland based, DIDO from Mackay or FIFO from Brisbane on a 9-day fortnight basis. The position has to be site-based.

With a major focus on Payroll and data management, this role ensures the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services for employees at the Mining site. Operating in a dynamic mining environment, this position requires strong technical expertise in SAP/Workday payroll systems, a solid understanding of end-to-end payroll processes, and the ability to manage complex pay conditions. Reporting to the HR Manager, this role contributes to the effective execution of the site’s HR strategy by delivering compliant, high-quality payroll outcomes while supporting a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Processing & Pay Cycles
  • Deliver end-to-end payroll processing across weekly, fortnightly, and monthly cycles in partnership with the corporate payroll team.
  • Accurately manage complex pay conditions including shift allowances, overtime, site incentives, and leave entitlements.
  • Ensure all payroll transactions are processed in line with strict deadlines and compliance requirements.
  • Perform payroll reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies prior to finalisation.
  • Undertake payroll improvement activities such as timesheet audits, leave reconciliations, and data validation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date HRIS records (SAP/Workday), ensuring data integrity at all times.
  • Handle sensitive payroll information with a high level of confidentiality and in accordance with data privacy standards.
Payroll Systems & Administration
  • Utilise SAP (HCM/SuccessFactors) and Workday to process payroll transactions and maintain employee data.
  • Manage payroll master data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company and legislative requirements.
  • Process employee lifecycle changes including roster updates, transfers, secondments, promotions, and terminations.
  • Investigate and resolve system issues, coordinating with IT or external vendors as required.
  • Support system upgrades, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives across payroll platforms.
Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Own end-of-month payroll reporting, ensuring deadlines are met and insights are provided to the HR Manager.
  • Analyse payroll and labour cost data to identify trends, anomalies, and cost optimisation opportunities.
  • Prepare both routine and ad-hoc reports for site leadership.
  • Conduct variance analysis across pay cycles, rosters, and workforce costs to support informed decision-making.
