Position Title: JS.CMS.019 Assistant Judgement Editor
Grade: NJS 09
The National Judicial Staff Services (NJSS) has initiated a major organisational restructure to strengthen its workforce and enhance the delivery of efficient, effective, and quality support services to the Judiciary and courts throughout Papua New Guinea. We invite suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated Papua New Guineans to apply for the position of Assistant Judgement Editor within the PNGLIN unit based in Waigani.
Role Overview:
The primary responsibility of the Assistant Judgment Editor is to record any changes undertaken during proof reading and editing of the Supreme Court and National Court judgments. The officer will undertake proofreading and take notes of instances of non-compliance with standards and escalate these issues with a user to take immediate quality and timely corrective measures. Supreme Court Act. National Court Act. Sheriff Act. Supreme Court Rules. National Court Rules. Practice Directions.

Key Responsibilities
- Keep record of all judgments delivered by Judges.
- Liaise with Library staff to ensure judgments are indexed, printed and ready for publishing and distribution.
- Responsible for data input and updates in the Judgment Database System.
- Receive and edit judgments forwarded by the Chief Editor/Judges/ judges’ secretaries.
- Work closely with Judicial officers, Library subscribers and the Library Division in ensuring that judgments are indexed, printed and ready for publication and dissemination.
- Liaise with the Library Staff for collating and printing judgments for circulation in bound volumes.
- develop quick-reference and indexing systems for binding judgments.
- Deliver and pick up judgments before and after binding.
- Proofread and convert hardcopy judgments into electronic format.
- Carry out audits on judgments on website and databases and post to web hosts missing judgments.
- Diploma in Law, Journalism or related fields.
- At least three (3) years of experience in the legal profession or publishing industry.
- Legal background.
- Litigation experience.
- Familiar with judgment editing.
- Management skills and knowledge.
- Assertiveness and decisiveness.
- Ability to take the initiative.
- Attention to detail.
- Degree in Law, Degree in Media Communications, or related fields.
- At least three (3) or more years of experience in the legal profession or publishing industry.
