Position Title: JS.CRO.110 Assistant Digital Audio Systems Engineer
Grade: NJS 13
The National Judicial Staff Services (NJSS) has initiated a major organisational restructure to strengthen its workforce and enhance the delivery of efficient, effective, and quality support services to the Judiciary and courts throughout Papua New Guinea. We invite suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated Papua New Guineans to apply for the position of Assistant Digital Audio Systems Engineer within the Court Reporting Service division based in Waigani.
Role Overview:
The Assistant Digital Audio Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the Court's digital recording and transcription capabilities. Reporting to the Manager - Digital Audio & Systems Engineer, this position is tasked with identifying, configuring, and ensuring the optimal operation of recording hardware and software within courtrooms. The role encompasses the maintenance, support, and repair of digital audio systems, the CRS database, and the court's online platforms, ensuring reliability and accessibility of court proceedings.

Reporting to the Manager - Digital Audio & Systems Engineer, this position is tasked with identifying, configuring, and ensuring the optimal operation of recording hardware and software within courtrooms. The role encompasses the maintenance, support, and repair of digital audio systems, the CRS database, and the court's online platforms, ensuring reliability and accessibility of court proceedings.
Key Responsibilities
- Effectively and efficiently carry out maintenance, support, and repair of the Court’s FTR digital recording and transcription system.
- Effectively and efficiently carry out the maintenance, support and repair of the CRS database, Intranet and Website.
- Must check digital recording equipment in all courtrooms each morning at least one hour before the courts start.
- Liaise with the Director of the Court’s IT division regarding the interface between the CRS digital system and the Court’s main IT server and the network.
- Maintain comprehensive documentary records of the maintenance and repair of these digital systems.
- Perform the daily and periodic archiving of the Court’s digital recorded voice files and conduct regular audits of the archived media.
- Provide technical training to judges and staff on how to use the recording system.
- Prepare requested court audio and deliver to the clients (judges, judges’ personal staff and the court users/clients)
- Generate reports for the Manager of Digital Audio & Systems, providing updates on equipment status, maintenance activities, and system performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, Information Technology or related field.
- Possess 5 years in court recording environment or recording studios.
- Thorough knowledge of digital audio technology, including software, hardware, and network dependencies, to solve complex problems and improve system performance.
- General knowledge of integrating specialized software and hardware within an existing IT network, including compatibility and security considerations.
- Working knowledge of audio recording and transcription technologies, understanding basic troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures
- Skilled in configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting digital audio systems and related IT infrastructure.
- Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
- Ability to analyse system performance, identify issues, and implement effective solutions.
- Proficiency in relevant software and technology solutions for court reporting.
- Adaptability and flexibility to manage sudden changes in workload.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and collaboration.
- Proactive in identifying and addressing challenges.
- High degree of professionalism and integrity.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Audio Engineering or related field
- Minium of 5 years or more experienced digital audio system maintenance and IT support, preferably within a legal or governmental setting.
