Position Overview
The Heavy Equipment Operator plays a critical role in mining operations by safely and efficiently operating heavy earth-moving equipment in a strip mine environment. This position requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to perform basic maintenance and assist with mechanical repairs when needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment such as track-type dozers, loaders, backhoes, off-road trucks, graders, and rock drills.
  • Move waste and ore dumps according to operational plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of loads, fueling, and equipment maintenance.
  • Perform routine operational maintenance (greasing, fueling, cleaning, checking wear parts).
  • Clean tracks, buckets, and cabs using shovels, picks, and brooms.
  • Assist mechanics with repairs and servicing tasks when required.
  • Change lubricants, filters, and wear parts as needed.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to climb on and off equipment multiple times per shift.
  • Maintain focus during repetitive equipment cycles for extended periods.
  • Lift, carry, and manipulate heavy-duty tools and wrenches for servicing and repairs.
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm movements using jacks, ratchet wrenches, chain hoists, and come along.
  • Work in varying weather conditions and on rotating shifts, including nights.

Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Responsibilities
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements and company safety procedures.
  • Perform duties safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Inspect work areas regularly for unsafe conditions and take corrective action.
  • Report all injuries, near misses, property damage, and hazards to the supervisor immediately.
  • Participate in required safety training, drills, and HSE performance programs.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment in mining or construction preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment maintenance and safety practices.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions and follow strict safety protocols.
