Field Commissioning Engineer – High Voltage Substations

Overview

Seeking a Field Commissioning Engineer with hands-on experience working inside high-voltage substations (138kV–365kV). This role supports EPC substation upgrade and service projects, leading commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and energization activities across North America.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute commissioning plans, procedures, and energization activities.
  • Test and commission HV equipment including transformers, breakers, GIS, protection relays, SCADA, and control systems.
  • Perform functional testing, relay verification, point-to-point checks, and system integration.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and control system issues using tools such as OMICRON, Doble, and Megger.
  • Coordinate with project teams, OEMs, and customers to support project execution.
  • Maintain commissioning documentation, test reports, and as-built records.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, LOTO procedures, OSHA requirements, and Zero Harm program.
Required Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or equivalent field experience.
  • Experience commissioning high-voltage substations (138kV–365kV).
  • Strong knowledge of protection & control systems, SCADA, and relay testing.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, logic diagrams, and protection settings.
  • Proficiency with electrical testing equipment.
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout North America.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NETA, IEEE, or related industry certifications.
  • Utility commissioning and switching procedure experience.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
