We have an exciting opportunity for a power systems engineer to work on projects that solve real-world electric utility problems. Desired capabilities are a strong plus. Job responsibilities and qualifications follow.

Required
• Experience working on utility-focused power engineering projects and / or product design.

• Competence with power system analysis tools including PSSE and PSCAD, and associated automation tools in Python.

• Experience delivering power systems studies as per the NEM connection application process.

• Knowledge of utility protection and control engineering design principles.

• Experience in executing power system consultancy projects.

• Ability to work with a small, fast-paced team to deliver customer value.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Experience writing technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.

• Willingness to travel periodically as required.


Desired
•Power system engineering skills in the context of utility scale renewable systems.

• Utility or consultancy based professional experience preferred.

• Knowledge of utility-scale energy storage systems.

• Familiarity in the operation and / or design of discrete time-based control systems.

• Knowledge of electric utility substation and electrical distribution system design.

• Knowledge of utility communication systems, including SCADA.

• Familiarity with additional analysis packages such as ETAP, PowerFactory, and MATLAB beneficial.

• Experience generating intellectual property (IP) and creating IP documentation within the context of product developments.


Responsibilities
• Undertake grid connection studies for megawatt-scale energy storage systems under the direction of an experienced engineer.

• Prepare concept designs (control and electrical), execute power system analysis, stakeholder reporting and ongoing stakeholder negotiations (including client, NSP and regulator).

• Ad-hoc travel to assist in power system validation during commissioning and on as-needs basis for client meetings.

• Provide engineering support for component solicitations including the evaluation of power conversion systems and battery systems from multiple vendors.


Qualifications
• 1+ years demonstrated experience in power systems engineering related to generator connections within the NEM.

• Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or related electrical power systems field.
