Overview
We are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join a growing commercial team within the construction sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of projects from tender stage through to final account, ensuring costs are effectively controlled, risks are managed, and projects are delivered within agreed budgets.
This position offers the opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of projects, collaborating closely with project teams, clients, suppliers and subcontractors.

We are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join a growing commercial team within the construction sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of projects from tender stage through to final account, ensuring costs are effectively controlled, risks are managed, and projects are delivered within agreed budgets.
This position offers the opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of projects, collaborating closely with project teams, clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare budget estimates, detailed cost plans and project forecasts.
- Review project documentation and specifications to gain a clear understanding of project requirements.
- Develop accurate cost estimates and pricing submissions.
- Support procurement activities and advise on suitable procurement strategies.
- Prepare tender documentation, subcontract packages and associated commercial information.
- Obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure value for money.
- Monitor project expenditure and manage variations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Produce regular commercial reports, including cost forecasts and margin analysis.
- Assist with cash flow forecasting and financial planning.
- Prepare and agree interim valuations and applications for payment.
- Negotiate and agree final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
- Conduct site visits and measurements when required.
- Support project teams throughout delivery, providing commercial guidance and advice.
- Monitor contractual obligations and ensure compliance with relevant agreements.
- Assist in contractor and supplier selection, appointment and performance management.
- Support invoicing, payment tracking and debt management processes.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and project cost data.
- Work closely with operational teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the commercial function.
- Ensure health, safety and environmental considerations are incorporated into commercial decision-making.
- Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of commercial management principles and cost control processes.
- Experience working with a variety of procurement methods and project delivery models.
- Knowledge of standard construction contracts and contractual procedures.
- Proven experience taking projects from tender stage through to final account.
- Ability to prepare cost estimates, valuations and commercial reports.
- Experience liaising with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider project team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- High level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Adaptable, proactive and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Accurate and timely delivery of commercial reporting.
- Effective cost management and margin protection.
