Rail Coordinator
Location: Houston, TX
Duration: 6-Month Contract (Potential for Extension or Long-Term Opportunity)
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 Hours per Week
Work Arrangement: Onsite, 5 Days per Week
Jr Rate: 28-33/hr
Overview We are seeking a Rail Coordinator to support rail logistics operations by tracking railcar movements, coordinating shipments, resolving service issues, and maintaining accurate transportation data. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, analytical ability, and a customer-focused approach. The ideal candidate will have experience working with rail transportation systems and a solid understanding of freight movement processes.

Key Responsibilities
- Track and monitor railcar movements, maintaining accurate records in rail tracking and transportation systems.
- Ensure shipment information is entered correctly and railcars are allocated appropriately.
- Communicate proactively with rail carriers to resolve service disruptions, delays, and transportation issues.
- Investigate railcar delays by reviewing shipment status updates, researching billing information, and coordinating with carriers.
- Generate shipping documentation, including bills of lading, diversions, and reshipments.
- Manage and resolve transportation billing discrepancies and data-related issues.
- Maintain detailed status logs documenting railcar issues, delays, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate rail fleet activities at storage facilities and operational locations.
- Develop and maintain reports related to rail operations, transportation performance, and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze rail movement data to identify trends, operational challenges, cost drivers, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Support the management of loaded and empty railcar supply across multiple locations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external transportation partners to meet operational requirements.
- Experience in rail transportation, rail logistics, freight operations, or supply chain coordination.
- Strong understanding of rail systems and the movement of freight through transportation networks.
- Experience troubleshooting transportation or shipment delays.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including importing data, creating reports, and building pivot tables.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with transportation management or rail tracking systems.
- Experience with enterprise resource planning systems.
- Knowledge of rail station identifiers, rail codes, and railroad operations.
- Experience working with transportation billing and freight documentation.
