Job Title: Nurse II
Location: Cold Lake, Alberta
Length: 7 months (possibility of extension)
Rotation: 4 days on / 3 days off
 
Role Summary
Provides professional occupational health nursing services to support the company's integrated occupational health programs across multiple business units. Delivers clinical assessments, health surveillance, disability case management support, and workers’ compensation coordination. Ensures high-quality care, regulatory compliance, and effective communication with employees, management, and external stakeholders.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
Clinical & Occupational Health Services
  • Conduct fitness-for-work evaluations using clinical and evidence-based assessments, including safety-sensitive and executive occupational evaluations (OE).
  • Collect and assess employee health data through occupational health histories, physical assessments, and clinical screenings (e.g., HbA1c).
  • Interpret clinical test results, arrange follow-up assessments, coordinate referrals, and communicate outcomes as required.
  • Provide emergency treatment for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Offer guidance on illness and injury prevention, health promotion, and community health resources.
 
Program Delivery & Compliance
  • Deliver services within the professional scope and standards of nursing practice and Occupational Health Division requirements.
  • Conduct occupational evaluations in accordance with company policies and regulatory obligations.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee health records in compliance with data privacy standards.
  • Support Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) requirements related to Occupational Health.
 
Disability & Workers’ Compensation Support
  • Assist with disability case management in collaboration with third‑party disability vendors and OHD Disability Case Management Advisors (DCMA).
  • Coordinate and support workers’ compensation claims and related processes.
 
Health Centre Operations
  • Participate in day‑to‑day administration of the health centre, including scheduling occupational exams, managing medical inventory, and maintaining equipment.
  • Order supplies and ensure readiness of clinical resources.
 
Collaboration & Program Development
  • Communicate and collaborate with management on occupational health issues, trends, and recommendations.
  • Develop and deliver occupational health and wellness programs tailored to workforce needs.
 
Role Scope
  • Ensures compliance with nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and company occupational health policies.
  • Contributes to operational integrity, risk management, and continuous improvement of health programs.
  • Supports safe, healthy, and productive work environments through proactive health surveillance and early intervention.
  • Influences stakeholders through professional expertise and effective communication.
 
Qualifications
  • Nursing Degree, Advanced Nursing Degree, or Nurse Practitioner Degree.
  • Current or eligible unrestricted registration with the provincial nursing regulatory body for the primary work location.
  • In good standing with applicable provincial licensing organizations.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant occupational health or clinical experience preferred.
  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN(C)) preferred.
  • Audiometry and spirometry certification preferred.
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification preferred.
  • Completion of a physical health assessment course may be required.
