Reliability Engineer - Mobile Equipment | 6-Month Contract | FIFO | Mining Operation
The Opportunity
An established mining operation is seeking an experienced Reliability Engineer - Mobile Equipment to support the performance, reliability, and maintenance optimisation of a large underground mining fleet. Working closely with maintenance and operations teams, you will play a key role in improving asset performance, reducing equipment downtime, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across critical mobile mining assets. This position offers the opportunity to work within a technically challenging environment while contributing to long-term asset management and reliability outcomes.

The Opportunity
An established mining operation is seeking an experienced Reliability Engineer - Mobile Equipment to support the performance, reliability, and maintenance optimisation of a large underground mining fleet. Working closely with maintenance and operations teams, you will play a key role in improving asset performance, reducing equipment downtime, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across critical mobile mining assets. This position offers the opportunity to work within a technically challenging environment while contributing to long-term asset management and reliability outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse fleet reliability, availability, utilisation, and maintenance performance.
- Lead defect elimination initiatives and failure investigations using reliability methodologies such as RCA, FMEA, Weibull analysis, and 5 Whys.
- Develop and optimise maintenance strategies, asset care plans, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Utilise maintenance and condition monitoring data to identify improvement opportunities and mitigate asset risk.
- Provide technical guidance to maintenance and operational teams regarding equipment performance and maintenance priorities.
- Support capital planning, lifecycle management, component forecasting, and replacement strategies.
- Assist with the introduction of new equipment, maintenance readiness activities, and reliability improvement projects.
- Build strong working relationships with maintenance personnel, planners, OEMs, and operational stakeholders to drive sustainable asset performance improvements.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience within mining, heavy industry, resources, or asset-intensive operations.
- Strong understanding of mobile equipment maintenance, reliability engineering, and asset management principles.
- Experience conducting failure investigations and implementing reliability improvement initiatives.
- Working knowledge of maintenance management systems such as SAP PM.
- Strong analytical capabilities with experience using Excel, Power BI, or similar reporting tools.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- FIFO roster from Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns.
